Since the end of July, a new Omega Speedmaster has been available on the market, part of the “Dark Side of The Moon” collection in direct collaboration with ‘Alinghi’ which also gives the name to this new Speedmaster.
Alinghi is a Swiss competitive sailing team created in 1994 by Ernest Bertarelli, in his history he has two America Cups (2003 and 2007) and some other admirable trophies.
Wanting to know the reason for this collaboration is easy, the Speedmaster line is all about speed so it’s common to be associated with cars, airplanes, ships where high speed is all the time present, and sailing on a hydrofoil racing catamaran is almost the same, high speed , high adrenaline and running on the edge of life or death.
This new Omega was built from a monoblock black ceramic case with 44.25mm in diameter, with pushers, crown and also a buckle in ceramic. On the dial, we can find the three usual sub-dial’s presented in most Speedmaster, at 3 o’clock, we can find a 30 minute timer with a red scale until the 4th and 5th minute, which represents the tactical time before the race starts, which is a critical moment for the yachts as they are in constant movement and their crews are maneuvering so that they do not cross the last buoy of the starting line. At 6 o’clock, we have another sub-dial that is completely filled with the rotary ‘Alinghi’ logo, represented by a red wave and finally we have the traditional seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock. On the dial, we can also find the second hand in red as the inscription “Speedmaster” at the top, just below the Omega logo and the inscription “Omega”, the hour markers are also in red as well as the inscription “Tachymètre” on bezel. Just two more details before we look inside, the upper pusher is signed with the ‘Alinghi’ logo in red and the crown is signed with the Omega logo with luminescence. This watch comes with a water resistance of 50m, which can withstand at least some good dives, which may seem little given the spirit of sailing present, but we must not forget that it is part of the Speedmaster line and not the Seamaster.
Inside the Speedmaster ‘Alinghi’, we find an internal caliber 1865 manual movement based on the 1861 hand-wound caliber of the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, the movement is possible being observed by the caseback sapphire glass, wherein can observe a decoration that switches between the honeycomb pattern and the bridges decorated by laser with a carbon effect.
This watch comes with a microperforated black rubber strap with red stitching, this watch is not a limited edition and is available on the market from € 10,420.00.
