Inspired By Nature: The Story Of Chopard’s Alpine Eagle Collection
The Alpine Eagle collection by Chopard is a sophisticated reinterpretation of the 1980 St. Moritz watch, designed by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele. Inspired by the majestic Alps and the powerful eagle, the collection is crafted from Lucent Steel A223, an innovative metal that is hypoallergenic, highly durable, and uniquely reflective. The collection showcases a refined, contemporary design with integrated cases and bracelets, featuring dials that evoke the textures and colours of the Alpine environment, such as glaciers and mountain ranges.
The Alpine Eagle is available in unisex models in two sizes: 41 mm for the Large model and 36 mm for the Small model. The watches come in various materials, including steel, gold, bi-material, and diamond-set gold. Each watch is powered by Chopard’s in-house, chronometer-certified automatic movements, visible through a transparent sapphire crystal back. The Large model houses the 01.01-C calibre with a 60-hour power reserve, while the Small model features the 09.01-C calibre with a 42-hour power reserve, one of the smallest COSC-certified movements.
Chopard’s commitment to environmental sustainability is embodied in the launch of the Eagle Wings Foundation, founded by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the beauty and fragility of the Alpine biotopes through innovative projects, including the Alpine Eagle Race, which captures images from an eagle’s perspective across iconic Alpine peaks.
Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, initially hesitant about revisiting the St. Moritz, was persuaded by his son Karl-Fritz, reflecting on his own experience of convincing his father 40 years ago. The Alpine Eagle collection is dedicated to contemporary eagles, individuals who excel and inspire in their daily lives while being conscious of environmental challenges.
The collection has evolved since its launch in 2019, now including models in Lucent SteelTM, ethical yellow gold, and grade 5 titanium. It features various complications, such as chronographs, high-frequency movements, a flying tourbillon, and an extra-thin model with a small seconds indication bearing the prestigious Poinçon de Genève seal. Chopard’s independence and integrated production allow for all stages of production and assembly to be carried out in-house.
The Alpine Eagle exhibition will be open to the public from June 17th to July 13th, 2024, at the Torres Joalheiros Flagship store on Av. Liberdade 225/225A 1250-142 Lisbon, from Monday to Saturday, 10:30 am to 7:00 pm. On Sunday, it will be closed.
