Ianos Amfivios: A Civilian Dive Watch Inspired By Greece’s OYK
Greek independent watchmaker Ianos expands its collection of purpose-built dive watches with the new Amfivios, a civilian model derived from the Ianos OYK developed for members of Greece’s Underwater Demolition Command (DYK).
The OYK was produced as a 300-piece commission for active and future members of the unit, supported by the Athanasios C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation. Following interest from collectors who wanted a version of the military watch, Ianos founder Jacob Hatzidimitriou created the Amfivios. While it removes the military designation from the dial and adopts an all-black execution, much of the original design and functionality remains intact.
A 41mm Grade 2 Titanium Case
The Amfivios uses a 41 mm Grade 2 titanium case, finished entirely with a bead-blasted surface. Titanium keeps the watch relatively light while reinforcing its tool-watch character, and the deliberately matte treatment avoids unnecessary decorative elements.

The proportions measure 49 mm from lug to lug and 14.68 mm thick, including the domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Despite the substantial water-resistant construction, Ianos has designed the case around practical wrist ergonomics.
One of the most distinctive elements is found underneath the watch. The case incorporates Ianos’ integrated strap channel, allowing the strap to sit within the architecture of the case rather than simply passing underneath it. Fixed titanium strap bars further secure the single-pass strap while helping maintain the compact relationship between the watch and the wrist.
The solid titanium case back also means that the Amfivios is assembled as a front-loader, while contributing to its 300-metre water resistance. At 3 o’clock, a screw-down Grade 2 titanium crown completes the case construction.
A New Bezel Design for Ianos
The Amfivios introduces another notable change to the brand’s dive-watch design language: its bezel features raised numerals.

Earlier Ianos dive watches used a more minimalist bezel with a sandblasted surface and no numerical markings. On the Amfivios, the relief numerals provide a clearer timing reference while adding another functional element to the otherwise restrained exterior.
A luminous pip at 12 o’clock complements the bezel markings and forms part of the watch’s extensive low-light legibility.
A Dial Built Around Legibility
The matte, subtly textured black dial continues the Amfivios’s utilitarian approach.
Its hour markers take inspiration from the shape of diving stones, with the markers constructed from luminous material. The minute track and date frame at 12 o’clock are also luminescent, while the broad hands provide a clear indication of the hours and minutes.

Ianos takes the use of lume considerably further than is usual. The hands, bezel pip and other timing indications glow in green, while additional elements of the dial emit blue light. Even the printed Ianos logo, model name and the large markings around the running-seconds sub-dial are treated with lume.
The result is a dial designed not simply to remain visible in darkness, but to separate its different functions through contrasting luminous elements.
At 6 o’clock, the running-seconds sub-dial provides an immediate indication that the automatic movement is operating, while the date display is positioned unusually at 12 o’clock.
Sellita Automatic Movement
Powering the Amfivios is the Sellita SW360, an automatic mechanical movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour.

The movement uses 31 jewels and provides approximately 56 hours of power reserve, giving the watch a practical level of autonomy for everyday wear.
The movement is accessed and controlled through the screw-down titanium crown, with the overall configuration prioritising reliability and ease of use rather than decorative finishing.
A Purpose-Built Strap System
The Amfivios is delivered on a black single-pass rubber NATO strap, which works together with the fixed strap bars and case-back channel.

This arrangement is central to the watch’s ergonomics. Rather than treating the strap as a separate accessory, Ianos has incorporated it into the architecture of the case, keeping the watch securely positioned on the wrist while reducing unnecessary movement.
The titanium construction also helps compensate for the watch’s relatively substantial dimensions, making the overall package considerably lighter than a similarly sized steel dive watch.
From Military Tool to Civilian Dive Watch
The Ianos Amfivios occupies an unusual position within the brand’s catalogue. It is not a direct military-issued watch, but its design is closely related to a model created specifically for Greece’s Underwater Demolition Command.
The absence of the OYK designation and the move to an entirely black configuration distinguish it from its military predecessor, while the fundamental architecture remains largely unchanged.
Importantly, the Amfivios is not officially a limited edition. The initial production batch consists of 300 watches, with the first 100 numbered examples already purchased by existing Ianos clients. The remaining 200 pieces are non-numbered and are expected to become available in the coming weeks. A future production run will depend on demand.
Priced at CHF 2,050 before taxes, the Ianos Amfivios comes with its black single-pass rubber NATO strap.
Our Take
The Amfivios is an interesting example of how a military-inspired watch can transition into a civilian model without losing the engineering decisions that defined the original. Rather than simply borrowing the visual language of a military diver, Ianos has retained the practical case architecture, titanium construction, extensive lume and integrated strap system that give the watch its identity.
With its 300-metre water resistance, Sellita automatic movement and highly legible dial, the Amfivios remains firmly rooted in the world of functional dive watches, while its connection to the OYK gives it a distinctive story within the contemporary independent watch scene.
