Hermès Expands The Cut Collection With “Le Temps Suspendu” Complication
Hermès presents a new evolution in its Cut collection with the introduction of the Cut Le Temps Suspendu, expanding both in case size and in mechanical complexity. The 39mm model debuts a distinctive function allowing time to be “suspended,” using a patented complication that momentarily halts the display of time.
First seen in the Arceau line in 2011, the Le Temps Suspendu mechanism lets the wearer disengage from the indication of hours and minutes. At the press of a triangular pusher at 8 o’clock, the hands align symmetrically in a “V” around the 12 o’clock marker. A second press returns the hands to their correct timekeeping positions. This function is purely aesthetic and philosophical in nature — the movement continues to track time internally.

The watch is housed in a 39mm case made entirely of 5N rose gold and is limited to 750 pieces. Its design features a smooth bezel, a brushed mid-case with contrasting polished accents, and a unique silhouette described by Hermès as a “circle within a round shape.” A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the movement, and the case provides water resistance up to 100 metres. The crown is positioned unconventionally between 1 and 2 o’clock, reflecting the asymmetric identity of the Cut line.

Two dial variants are available: an opaline silver-toned version, which can be paired with either a smooth bezel or a diamond-set bezel featuring 60 brilliant-cut diamonds; and a sunburst red dial, presented as a limited “one-shot” edition that will not be reproduced in future collections.
Both versions feature applied Arabic numerals filled with Super-LumiNova, an inner minute track marked by gold dots at five-minute intervals, and a recessed small seconds sub-dial located at the 4 o’clock position. This sub-dial operates with a retrograde 24-second display that functions as a visual running indicator. A recessed channel runs from the centre of the dial toward 12 o’clock, indicating the alignment path of the hands when time is suspended.

Powering the watch is the Hermès H1912 automatic movement, enhanced with the proprietary Le Temps Suspendu module developed and patented by Jean-Marc Wiederrecht of Agenhor. The entire system comprises 308 components in total — 175 in the base movement and 133 in the additional module. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and delivers a power reserve of 45 hours. Its functions include central hours and minutes with a 360-degree retrograde display, a 24-second retrograde small seconds, and the signature time suspension mechanism. Decorative finishing includes circular graining and snailing on the mainplate, while the module features both circular graining and Côtes de Genève patterns.

The watch is paired with a rose gold bracelet featuring polished centre links, a butterfly clasp, and a quick-interchange system. Additionally, a rubber strap is included with several colour options available, including a beige tone that pairs especially well with the opaline dial variant.
Pricing and availability have not yet been confirmed, but the Hermès Cut Le Temps Suspendu clearly marks a bold and technically sophisticated new direction for the collection.
