Heritage Reimagined: Mido’s Ocean Star Worldtimer Nods To The Past
Mido expands its Ocean Star line with a new reference designed for globetrotters who value utility, reliability, and a touch of retro styling. The Ocean Star Worldtimer reinterprets a 1970s model from Mido’s archives, offering a contemporary timepiece with practical travel functions and robust dive watch specifications.
Case and Bezel
The Ocean Star Worldtimer is built around a 40.50 mm stainless steel case, with a lug-to-lug measurement of approximately 47 mm, ensuring a comfortable fit across a wide range of wrist sizes. The case architecture is identical to that of the Ocean Star Tribute model, featuring vintage-inspired elements coupled with modern durability.

Key to its travel functionality is the unidirectional rotating bezel, which includes engraved city names on a black aluminum insert. This bezel enables manual reference of time across 24 global cities, functioning similarly to a GMT bezel without the addition of a GMT hand or 24-hour disc.

A box-shaped sapphire crystal sits atop the case, mimicking the look of vintage acrylic while delivering modern scratch resistance. The screw-down crown and engraved case back—which features Mido’s signature starfish emblem—contribute to the watch’s 200 meters of water resistance, qualifying it for recreational diving and making it a viable option for both sea and air travel.
Dial and Legibility
The dial exhibits a silver-toned velour finish and is accented by a distinctive black-and-red checkerboard minute track, evoking a classic 1970s sports watch aesthetic. A day-date display at 3 o’clock adds everyday practicality, while baton-style hands filled with Super-LumiNova and a lollipop seconds hand with luminous dot ensure visibility in low-light environments. Luminous hour markers are printed along the periphery for further legibility.

Movement
Inside the Ocean Star Worldtimer is the Mido Caliber 80, an automatic movement derived from the ETA C07.621 (also known as the Powermatic 80). It features a Nivachron balance spring, enhancing resistance to magnetic interference. The movement runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and provides an 80-hour power reserve, offering extended autonomy for weekend trips or infrequent rotation in a watch collection.

Strap and Wearability
The watch is fitted with a black Bund-style leather strap, complete with contrast white stitching and red accents that echo the dial’s detailing. The strap includes a removable leather underlay, allowing the wearer to switch between a classic Bund look and a more streamlined profile depending on preference.

Price and Availability
The Mido Ocean Star Worldtimer is priced at € 990. It delivers a combination of vintage-inspired design, mechanical dependability, and dual-time tracking functionality in a format that is both accessible and versatile.
