Hanhart Goes Smaller With The New MAD Preventor HD12 36mm
Hanhart is giving its Preventor HD12 a more compact interpretation with the new MAD Preventor HD12 36 mm, a limited-edition collaboration with British watch enthusiast MAD collector. While the original Preventor HD12 established itself as a robust, uncomplicated everyday watch, this new version reduces the case diameter while retaining the technical characteristics that define the collection.
The result is a smaller mechanical watch with a particularly durable case, a highly legible dial and a practical automatic movement, limited to just 200 pieces.
A Smaller Case, the Same HD12 Construction
The most significant change is the case diameter, now measuring 36 mm. At 10.50 mm thick and with a 43 mm lug-to-lug measurement, the proportions are designed to sit comfortably on smaller and medium-sized wrists without sacrificing the presence of the original design.
Hanhart uses its proprietary HD12 steel, developed to offer considerably greater surface hardness than conventional stainless steel while retaining corrosion resistance and the ability to receive both brushed and polished finishes.
For additional protection, the case receives a transparent hard coating that raises its surface hardness to as much as 1,200 HV. This makes the Preventor HD12 particularly resistant to everyday scratches and marks.
The case combines a smooth bezel with short, compact lugs and a large screw-down crown. A screwed caseback completes the construction, while 150 metres of water resistance makes the watch suitable for considerably more than desk duty.
A Functional Green Dial
The dial adopts a distinctive Black Forest green colour, providing some character without compromising the straightforward philosophy of the Preventor.
Hanhart’s historical logo appears beneath 12 o’clock, while large Arabic numerals provide the principal hour markers. The familiar cathedral-style hands reinforce the brand’s traditional aesthetic while giving the watch an unmistakably vintage-inspired character.
Legibility is further enhanced by the application of Super-LumiNova C3 X2 GL to both the numerals and hands. The luminous material is designed to provide strong visibility in low-light conditions, complementing the watch’s practical purpose.
Importantly, the dial remains no-date, preserving its clean symmetry and making the time-only display particularly easy to read.
Sellita Automatic Power
Inside the 36 mm case is the same Sellita SW200-1 as its bigger sibbling, a well-established automatic calibre used extensively throughout the Swiss watch industry.
The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides approximately 38 hours of power reserve. Hanhart regulates the movement to a stated accuracy of between 0 and +8 seconds per day, giving the Preventor HD12 a useful level of precision for an everyday mechanical watch.
The absence of a date mechanism also keeps the movement configuration straightforward and complements the minimalist dial.
Three Wearing Options
Hanhart offers the MAD Preventor HD12 36 mm with a choice of black or brown leather straps, as well as a hardened steel bracelet.
The bracelet retains the 20mm lug width, which is relatively substantial for a 36 mm case and gives the watch a stronger visual presence. It also provides plenty of flexibility for owners who prefer experimenting with different strap combinations.
The steel bracelet features quick-release spring bars and a tool-free fine-adjustment system integrated into the folding clasp, allowing the fit to be modified without requiring additional tools.
