Hamilton Intra-Matic Chronograph H Expands With New 1960s-Inspired Dial Colors
Hamilton continues to build on one of its most recognizable chronograph lines with the introduction of three new dial variants for the Intra-Matic Chronograph H. Rooted in late-1960s motorsport design, these new references expand the collection beyond its established monochrome panda and reverse panda executions while preserving the core aesthetic and mechanical identity of the model.

A Design with Pre-Chrono-Matic Roots
While the Intra-Matic Chronograph is often associated with Hamilton’s 1969 Chrono-Matic, the bi-compax layout actually predates that landmark automatic chronograph. The design traces its origins back to 1968 and the hand-wound Chronograph A, a manually powered racing chronograph that established the symmetrical two-register dial still used today.

Hamilton revisited this historical configuration in 2021 with the introduction of the Intra-Matic Chronograph H, with the “H” indicating a hand-wound movement. Unlike the automatic Intra-Matic Chronograph, this version removes the date display and adopts a cleaner, more historically faithful dial layout.
Three New Dial Variants
The latest additions to the collection introduce three colorways inspired by the golden age of racing chronographs. The first features a blue dial paired with high-contrast orange chronograph hands and white registers, while the second comes in a brown fumé execution with a white central chronograph seconds hand and black sub-dial hands. The third option presents a green fumé dial with the same white and black chronograph hand configuration.

All three dials retain the characteristic bi-compax layout, with a 30-minute chronograph counter positioned at 3 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock. The sub-dials are recessed into the dial and finished in metallic silver, featuring a circular snailed texture and polished beveled edges that add visual depth and separation. Applied hour markers with chamfered profiles surround the dial, interrupted only where the sub-dials encroach, while polished steel pencil-style hour and minute hands complete the vintage-inspired display. A white printed seconds track and tachymeter scale run along the periphery of the dial, maintaining legibility while allowing the dial color or fumé gradient to extend uninterrupted to the edge.
Case and Dimensions
The Hamilton Intra-Matic Chronograph H is housed in a stainless steel case measuring 40 mm in diameter and approximately 14.40 mm in height, a dimension that includes the domed sapphire crystal. The case design follows the functional principles of 1960s racing chronographs, featuring a gently sloped bezel and long, sharply angled lugs that contribute to a secure fit on the wrist. The chronograph is equipped with pump-style pushers and a knurled crown, reinforcing its motorsport-inspired tool watch character. The domed sapphire crystal is treated with an anti-reflective coating, while the solid caseback is engraved and consistent with the watch’s vintage roots.
Hand-Wound Mechanical Movement
Inside the case is Hamilton’s H-51 movement, a manually wound chronograph caliber derived from the Valjoux 7753 architecture and adapted for hand-wound operation. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of up to 60 hours when fully wound.
Strap and Bracelet Options
With the introduction of these new references, Hamilton includes both a leather strap and a stainless steel mesh bracelet as standard. Each watch is delivered on a perforated leather racing strap secured by a pin buckle, with strap colors coordinated to the dial. The blue dial version is paired with a brown leather strap, while the green and brown fumé dials are matched with straps in corresponding tones. In addition, Hamilton includes its Milanese stainless steel mesh bracelet with a folding clasp in the box, offering owners the flexibility to alternate between a sportier or more vintage-oriented look without additional cost.
