Grand Seiko Unveils The New Hi-Beat GMT SBGJ277
The new Grand Seiko SBGJ277 is one of the news the prestigious Japanese watchmaking brand brought to the Geneva Grand Salon.
The new Hi-Beat dive watch has a beautiful textured white dial with a second-time zone and a bi-colour green and white bezel.
The impressive dial is this time inspired by the green vegetation of the Mount Iwate valleys in the summer months where it is still possible to find snow on the ground, a phenomenon known as “Sekkei”.
On the outside, the watch comes dressed in a round stainless steel case measuring 42.20mm wide by 14.40mm high and with a Zaratsu polished finish. Bi-directional bezel with a 24-hour insert in green and white, drilled lugs, sapphire crystal, fluted crown at 4 o’clock with the brand’s signature, screwed solid case back with the GS lion medallion and 200m water resistance.
On the silvery white dial we find mirror-polished hands filled with LumiBrite that makes them glow in the dark and as with the tips of the applied hour markers at 3-6-9-12 o’clock. A framed date window next to the crown, a centre seconds hand and a green GMT hand with an arrow-shaped tip that works in partnership with a 24-hour inner ring which, like the bezel, is painted in green on the upper half represents the night hours and white in the lower half representing daytime hours.
At its heart runs the Caliber 9S86 Hi-beat automatic movement, reaching 36,000 Vph, with an accuracy of +5/-3 seconds per month and 55 hours of power reserve. The movement is equipped with what is called in the industry as a true GMT, allowing independent local time adjustment in increments of one hour. At the same time, the extra GMT hand has the function of indicating home time, and can also provide the time of a third zone using the 24-hour bezel.
The watch is attached to a 3-link steel bracelet with a triple folding clasp, becoming part of the brand’s permanent collection, which will be available from May 1, 2024, for the price of €7,400.
