Grand Seiko Revives Iconic 1968 45GS With Two New Limited Editions
Grand Seiko is bringing back the double-signed dial inspired by the 1968 4520 45GS model with two limited editions.
The two new references are a revival of the original model and a tribute to the two variants introduced in 1968, the SLGW005 comes in a stainless steel case with an off-white dial and polished indexes and the SLGW004 in an 18k yellow gold case with a light cream dial with gold markers.
The dial is almost identical to the original, which will delight many fans, with faceted and polished hour markers, thin Dauphine hands, Seiko lettering at noon and the “GS” logo followed by the retro-style “Hi-Beat” inscriptions and the Daini Seikosha factory logo at 6 o’clock.
Although the case maintains its original shape with straight angles without curves, polished finish, flatted lugs, crown engraved with the “GS” logo, sapphire crystal on both sides and 30m of water resistance, its dimensions are relatively larger which may leave the more conservative audience disappointed, in which the previous measurements of 36.50mm by 8.80mm now give way to a more robust case of 38.80mm by 10.40mm which is mainly due to the new movement.
Inside the old high-frequency hand-wound Caliber 4520 now has a worthy successor introduced earlier this year, the 9SA4 also hand-wound which reaches 36,000 Vph, presenting an accuracy of -3/+5 seconds per day and an impressive 80 hours of power reserve thanks to its dual barrel.
The watches are paired with a matte black crocodile leather strap with stainless steel or 18k yellow gold pin buckle to match the case, which features the Seiko logo on a vintage style-hammered background.
Both watches will be available in November, with the SLGW005 limited to 1,200 units priced at €10,400 and the SLGW004 more restricted to just 200 units priced at €32,200.
