Gérald Genta, one of the most influential watch designers in history, had a special relationship with chiming complications. Among his many innovations, the minute repeater held a unique place, and his pioneering work helped bring this sophisticated mechanism back to prominence. Now, under the stewardship of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the Gérald Genta brand revisits this legacy with the introduction of the Gérald Genta Minute Repeater, a timepiece that blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.

A Refined Case Design

The watch is housed in a 40 mm yellow gold case with a remarkably slim 9.60 mm profile. Its silhouette draws on Genta’s fondness for unusual geometries, with a softly cushion case and signature lug modules that directly connect the strap to the watch. The surfaces alternate between polished and brushed finishes, while stepped bezel highlight the caseband, nodding to classic Genta aesthetics. The crown is set with a black onyx cabochon, and the repeater mechanism is activated by a discreetly integrated slim trigger.

Stone Dial Minimalism

The dial continues the theme of refinement with a polished black onyx base, a material Genta frequently used in his designs. A white railroad minute track provides structure, while applied yellow gold markers and matching hands enhance legibility. The subtle layering of circular and cushion-shaped design elements ties the dial to the case architecture, ensuring a balanced and harmonious presentation.

The Movement: Calibre GG-002

At the heart of the Gérald Genta Minute Repeater is the hand-wound calibre GG-002, crafted by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton under the expertise of Enrico Barbasini and Michel Navas. This ultra-thin movement measures just 5.46 mm thick yet delivers an 80-hour power reserve. Operating at 3Hz, the calibre showcases finely decorated bridges and thoughtful design details, including an octagonal-shaped inertia wheel — a subtle reference to Genta’s affinity for geometric forms.

The chiming mechanism has been carefully engineered for clarity and resonance. Its black-polished hammers and gongs are meticulously hand-tuned, working in harmony with the acoustically favorable yellow gold case to produce a bright, clear sound.
