Geneva Watch Days – Bvlgari
Gerald Genta Arena Retrograde Disney Mickey Mouse
Let’s start with the most fun of the new releases presented by the Gerald Genta brand, which has been part of the Bvlgari universe since 2000. Gerald Genta, in addition to being known for the design of several watches that today are the most coveted and sought after among enthusiasts and collectors, managed to 1990’s get Disney’s rights to begin producing watches featuring several characters from the Disney world, including the best known of them the Mickey Mouse, which would later appear as expected in the Retro Fantasy collection. Now the new, Arena Retrograde Disney Mickey Mouse, comes with exactly the same character and in the same shape as the one shown in the 1990’s Retro Fantasy collection.
The watch comes with a 41mm stainless steel case with a polished finish. The dial features Mickey Mouse with a minute hand retrograde that moves at a 210-degree angle and a jumping hour aperture at 5 o’clock. Inside, it operates a mono retrograde movement Caliber BVL262 that offers up to 42 hours of power reserve and can be seen through the open case back, which is engraved with the indication that it is a limited edition of 150 units. The watch is offered with a red texture padded rubber strap with a folding clasp for a price of €16,500.
Octo Roma WorldTimer
The new Roma WorldTimer comes in a 41mm 904L stainless steel case and comes in two variants, the first one with surfaces that alternate between polished and brushed and which comes with a blue sunburst dial and a second variant also in 904L stainless steel but with black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) finished and a matt black sandblasted dial. Crown at 3 o’clock with global function, real-time setting, and 24-hour inner ring movement function.
The dial comes with hours and minutes central hands and running seconds, while the global time function is operated by a 24-hour inner ring that pairs with the cities ring. However, this world timer presents some interesting curiosities at the level of the cities ring, starting with the central city aligned with the 12 hours, which is “Roma”, thus paying homage to its name and in the language of origin, the other curiosities being the fact that some of the traditional cities that are part of world timer watches have been replaced by other luxury destinations where the Bvlgari brand has hotels or is projected to have soon.
The watch is powered by the Caliber BVL257 automatic movement, which offers up to 42 hours of power reserve and can be viewed through the open case back.
The watches are offered with a stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp for the steel variant and a textured rubber strap with pin buckle for the black DLC variant, priced at $8,350.
Octo Roma Tourbillon Central Papillon
The new Roma Tourbillon is presented in a 41mm case in rose gold with matt black dial and the fact that it presents the flying tourbillon in its center represents a challenge in displaying the hours. Resulting in an ingenious mechanism, starting with a jumping hour aperture at 12 o’clock and a double minute hand that moves through a rotating disc that indicates the minutes in turn on a 180-degree scale positioned between 3 and at 9 o’clock. Thus, each one of these hour hands works one hour and rests another, giving the other one’s turn and vice versa, when it is not working it retracts and only points back to the hours at the transition moment when the other hand will retract itself, the only time both hands point simultaneously to the hours.
The watch comes with an automatic movement Caliber BVL 332 that offers up to 60 hours of power reserve and can be seen through the open case back where a power reserve display also resides.
The watch is offered with the black alligator leather strap with a rose gold folding clasp, with a price available on request.
