From Gold To Stone: The Evolution Of The Czapek Antarctique Mount Erebus
Czapek’s Antarctique collection has quickly become one of the brand’s defining creations since its introduction in 2020. Originally presented as an elegant sports watch with an integrated bracelet and powered by the brand’s first in-house calibre, the collection soon established itself as a contemporary icon. In 2024, Czapek introduced the Antarctique Mount Erebus in solid gold, named after the Antarctic volcano that releases microscopic gold particles in its plume. Building on this golden chapter, the Maison now unveils the Antarctique Mount Erebus Rare Stones, a series that combines precious metal with natural stone dials.

Natural Stone Dials
The growing fascination with natural stone in watchmaking finds a refined expression in this trilogy. For the new editions, Czapek collaborated with specialists at Gemmes-Tech to source rare stones from different corners of the world. The first is a green meteorite dial, created from a slice of the Gibeon meteorite discovered in Namibia. Its crystalline Widmanstätten structures are revealed through acid etching and highlighted with a translucent green lacquer, all framed by a yellow gold case. Another option is lapis lazuli from Afghanistan, a deep blue stone scattered with golden flecks of pyrite that shimmer against the warmth of a rose gold case. Because lapis is fragile, shaping it without fractures requires meticulous craftsmanship. Finally, the Falcon’s Eye, originating from South Africa, adds an intriguing optical effect thanks to fibrous inclusions that create a cat’s eye shimmer. In certain pieces, orange striations appear across the surface, and this variety is also paired with rose gold.

To preserve the purity of these stones, Czapek has eliminated the date window, opting instead for a clean dial layout enhanced with applied gold markers and matching hands filled with luminescent material.
Refined Case and Bracelet
The Mount Erebus Rare Stones models share the same refined proportions as previous editions, with a 40.50 mm case in gold and a thickness of just 10.60 mm. Water resistance reaches 120 metres, and the case displays an elegant mix of brushed and polished surfaces. Each watch is fitted with an integrated gold bracelet distinguished by polished C-shaped links, complete with an easy-release system that allows a seamless switch to a rubber strap with a gold folding clasp.

Movement
Inside, the watches are powered by the in-house calibre SXH5, an automatic movement wound by a platinum micro-rotor. The design includes seven skeletonised bridges, among them a transversal bridge that secures the variable inertia balance wheel. Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the calibre delivers a robust 60-hour power reserve from a single barrel.

Limited Editions and Pricing
Production remains highly exclusive. The green meteorite version is limited to just eight pieces, while the lapis lazuli and Falcon’s Eye editions are each restricted to ten pieces annually. Pricing starts at CHF 62,000 for the Falcon’s Eye, CHF 63,000 for the Green Meteorite, and CHF 66,000 for the Lapis Lazuli.
