Four New Seiko Prospex ‘The Black Series’
New Pitch Watch
Seiko has just released four new Diver’s watches as part of its line Prospex ‘The Black Series’.
All of them are modern re-interpretations of mechanical diver’s from 1965 to 1970 and are limited editions.
Inspired by the night diving in the ocean, whose mysteries attract many divers around the world. The watch’s black cases express the darkness and silence of the oceans at night, while the watch’s orange accents are inspired by the lights that shine under the ocean at night.
Three of the new watches are re-interpretations of the 1965 (SPB253), 1968 (SPB255) and 1970 (SPB257) diver’s watches. Featuring orange accents on the dial, namely on the minute hand and eventually on the second-hand tip and also on the bezel through its scale in the first 15 to 20 minutes. The hour markers, hands and the dot bezel at 12 o’clock are coated with Lumibrite in three different shades (blue, orange and green) that ensure time reading even in dark conditions.
The three watches are powered by the automatic movement Caliber 6R35 which offers up to 70 hours of power reserve.
The watches are offered with a fabric strap in burgundy tones, made using the Japanese Seichu technique, which stands out for its high strength and durability in the face of sun exposure. Each of the references is limited to 5,500 pieces, with prices ranging from $1,200 (SPB253, SPB255) to $1,300 (SPB257).
Finally, we have SLA061 which is a modern re-interpretation of 1970 diver’s watches, which presents a dial pattern express the texture of sand on the sea bed, and also features some orange accents, although on a smaller scale in relation to the other three watches, namely the second hand and the “Diver’s 200m” inscription at 6 o’clock.
Inside the watch is the Caliber 8L35 assembled by hand by the watchmakers of Shizukuishi in northern Japan, which offers up to 50 hours of power reserve.
The watch is offered with stainless steel (hard coating) bracelet with a three-fold clasp with a secure lock. Like the other three timepieces, it is a limited edition, of 1,000 units for the price of $3,000.
All four of the new diver’s watches feature a stainless steel (hard coating) case, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and screw case back engraved with serial number and with “LIMITED EDITION”, unidirectional bezel and 200m water resistance. On the dial, lumiBrite on hands, indexes and bezel and date window. Lastly, it follows with each of one an additional black silicone strap and all will be available from March 2022.
