Fortis Vagabond V-40: A Bold GMT Watch With Retro Charm
Fortis has ventured into new territory by introducing the Vagabond V-40, a distinct departure from the brand’s usual action-packed collections like Novonaut, Stratoliner, Marinemaster, or Flieger. This fresh release brings a cosmopolitan flair, drawing inspiration from vintage designs of the 60s and 70s. With its sleek, rectangular case and refined aesthetic, the Vagabond V-40 represents a new direction for Fortis, blending both style and functionality into a new dressy category.
The watch boasts a Grade 5 titanium Tonneau-shaped case, sized 40mm in diameter, 13.90mm in thickness, and 51mm in length. Its satin-brushed finish is complemented by a smooth polished bezel and sapphire crystal, creating an elegant contrast to the fluted crown, which is emblazoned with Fortis’ signature logo. With a screw-down case back and 200-meter water resistance, this timepiece retains Fortis’ reputation for robust performance.
Available in three captivating dial options—sunray blue, sunray anthracite, and grainy light grey—the Vagabond V-40 presents an array of subtle, yet striking, design elements. The chapter ring features polished Arabic numerals and indexes filled with Super-LumiNova for enhanced readability in low-light conditions. Adding to its sophistication is an 18k white gold middle ring, which carries the 24-hour scale for the second time zone function. A unique date window is cleverly integrated into the 12-hour marker position, while a central GMT hand with an orange triangle tip ties the look together. The dial is completed by the Fortis logo at the noon position, and the “Vagabond” name with “Chronometer Certified” at 6 o’clock, a nod to the precision performance of the watch.
At the core of the Fortis Vagabond V-40 lies the WERK 13 automatic movement, developed in partnership with Kenissi. This Chronometer-certified flyer-GMT movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 Vph and offers an impressive 70-hour power reserve, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
The watch is finished with a 3-link titanium bracelet featuring a folding clasp with slide micro-adjustments, providing both comfort and a secure fit. Priced at €6,800, the Fortis Vagabond V-40 is a technical marvel and a stylish companion for those who appreciate timeless design paired with modern functionality.
