Fortis Novonaut N-42 Goes Titanium: A New Era For A Legendary Chronograph
The Fortis Novonaut N-42 returns in a striking new Titanium Legacy Edition, adding a fresh take to a model inspired by the legendary B-42 Official Cosmonaut Chronograph, once the standard-issue timepiece for Roscosmos. This latest version builds on the innovation seen in the exclusive Amadee-24 edition of 2024, incorporating a full titanium case and bracelet for enhanced durability and a lightweight feel.
With a robust 42mm case diameter, 15mm thickness, and 51mm lug-to-lug length, the Novonaut maintains its distinctive round profile with a brushed finish. A black ceramic bezel insert with Super-LumiNova X1 enhances legibility, while a unidirectional titanium bezel ensures precision timing. The screw-down crown, equipped with a triple gasket system, sits securely between two pushers, reinforcing the watch’s 200m water resistance. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the screwed open case back provides a glimpse of the movement within.
The matte black dial adopts a traditional Tri-compax chronograph layout, featuring snailing registers at 6, 9, and 12 o’clock, with a 12-hour counter, a running seconds subdial, and a 30-minute recorder. A day-date display at 3 o’clock integrates seamlessly, shaded by the Fortis logo and followed by the Novonaut signature. Applied Lumicast X1 Arabic numerals, along with pencil-style hands filled with the same luminescent material, emit a vivid blue glow in low-light conditions. Elevating the design further, a 5N gold-plated lollipop chronograph seconds hand adds a striking contrast, matching the gold-plated subdial hands.
Powering the Novonaut N-42 Titanium Legacy Edition is the reliable automatic Caliber Werk 17. This high-performance movement features a column wheel mechanism, 26 jewels, and operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, delivering a robust 60-hour power reserve.
Completing the timepiece is a solid titanium block bracelet, equipped with a slide clasp and micro-adjustment system for a secure and comfortable fit. Now part of the permanent Fortis collection, the Novonaut N-42 Titanium Legacy Edition is available for purchase at €5,800.
