Inspired by the practical requirements of life at sea, the new Brunswick 40 ‘Helmsman’ ES brings a more rugged character to one of Fears’ most recognizable designs. While retaining the elegant cushion-shaped case that defines the Brunswick collection, the watch introduces a series of technical and aesthetic enhancements focused on durability, legibility, and everyday performance.

Built For Life On The Water

The Brunswick collection has traditionally occupied the elegant side of Fears’ catalogue, blending refined aesthetics with contemporary proportions. With the new ‘Helmsman’ ES, the brand adapts its flagship design for more demanding environments while preserving its recognizable character.

The stainless steel case retains the familiar 40 mm diameter and cushion-shaped profile that defines the Brunswick line. However, several changes distinguish the Helmsman ES from the standard model. Most notably, water resistance has been increased to 200 meters, providing additional capability for life around the water and reinforcing the watch’s tool-oriented credentials.

Matte Finishing For Reduced Reflections

One of the most significant visual changes is the complete removal of polished surfaces from the case. Instead, Fears employs a combination of brushed and media-blasted finishes throughout.

The media-blasted treatment creates a soft matte appearance that minimizes reflections, an approach that aligns with the watch’s maritime inspiration. The result is a more understated and functional aesthetic while also giving the Brunswick a noticeably different character compared to its dressier siblings.

Clean And Highly Legible Dial

The dial follows the same philosophy of clarity and practicality. A matte white surface serves as the foundation, complemented by a marine-blue minute track positioned around the outer edge.

Matching blue Arabic numerals and hands provide strong visual contrast against the light background, enhancing legibility. Unlike the case, these elements feature polished surfaces, allowing them to catch available light and remain easy to read at a glance.

The overall design remains intentionally restrained, with minimal text and no unnecessary complications. This clean layout contributes to the watch’s functional nature while maintaining the elegant simplicity associated with the Fears brand.

Inside the Brunswick 40 ‘Helmsman’ ES is the automatic La Joux-Perret G101 movement. Over recent years, the calibre has become a popular choice among independent watchmakers thanks to its reliability, modern architecture, and strong performance specifications.

The movement delivers a power reserve of approximately 68 hours, allowing the watch to remain running throughout a weekend off the wrist. Owners can also admire the calibre through the exhibition caseback, which features a custom rotor decorated with Fears’ Bristol flower motif.

The Fears Brunswick 40 ‘Helmsman’ ES is fitted with an FKM rubber strap, reinforcing its sport-oriented character and suitability for active use. Despite its more rugged specifications, the watch remains positioned within the luxury segment of the brand’s collection.

The new Brunswick 40 ‘Helmsman’ ES is priced at GBP 3,450 and joins the growing Endurance Specification family as the first regular-production Brunswick model developed around this concept.
