Eberhard Presents The New Chronographe 1887 Automatique And Édition Limitée
Eberhard made its debut this year at Watches and Wonders and brought two timepieces to the biggest show in Geneva, the first Extra-fort Vitré which we already had the opportunity to talk about here, and the Chronographe 1887 that we are going to talk about.
The Chronographe 1887 Collection was born 5 years ago in 2019 based on the chronographs from the 1930s onwards developed by the Maison and for that reason, we find the year of its foundation in the name of the collection as an homage.
Another highlight that we can also find in other collections such as the Extra-fort Vitré is the Emblem of The Bouclier Pointu originally deposited as Poiçon de Maîtres in 1892 which appears engraved on the watch movement.
The new Chronographe 1887 arrives in two editions, namely the Chronographe 1887 Édition Limitée of 250 units and the Chronographe 1887 Automatique which becomes part of the permanent collection.
The chronographs come in a round stainless steel case measuring 41.50mm in diameter and 13.90mm (limited edition)/14mm thick with a polished and brushed finish, sapphire crystal, mono-pusher crown at 3 o’clock and flanked by another pusher at 2, open case back held by four screws and 50m water resistance.
On the dial, both editions are presented in two variants, one in black and the other in off-white, and on them we find a tachymeter spiral center scale drawn in blue in off-white dials as well as the black limited edition, while in the regular edition, it is drawn in grey, an inner tachymeter bezel, two registers at 3-9 o’clock consisting of a 30-minute counter and a running seconds. Syringe hands are accompanied by a chronograph center seconds hand which in the off-white dials are painted in blue, it is also worth highlighting that the limited editions come with baton hour markers while the regular ones come with Breguet-style Arabic numerals.
The Chronographe 1887 Automatique, in addition to the two variants mentioned above, adds a third variant different from the others, which comes with a blue Guilloché dial, which maintains the Bicompax layout with the two registers but comes with a snailed background, and the same syringe hands and chronograph center seconds hand. The telemetric scale is banned from the edges, giving way to the tachymeter scale. Lastly, there is no place for batons or Arabic hour markers, which are replaced by Roman numerals.
Inside, the limited editions come equipped with the Caliber EB280 manual movement. In contrast, the regular editions come with the Caliber EB380 automatic movement, both exclusives developed in collaboration with Manufacture AMT. They are column wheel chronographs with a flyback complication, which come decorated with Côtes d Genève and a 4N gold color shield.
All watches come attached to a black alligator leather strap except the regular blue edition which comes with a strap matching the dial.
