Dragon Ball Z is Back Now in a Swatch Collection

Swatch presents its new collection Dragon Ball Z. The iconic animated series broadcast on Japanese television in the late 1980s and into the mid-1990s based on Toei Animation’s Dragon Ball manga series, which would later appear in over 80 countries.

Initially, there are seven watches that are part of the new collection and each one represents one of the characters in the series. Each watch offers two distinct versions or elements of the same character on the front and back. Character names are displayed in English on the top front loop and in Japanese on the back, while the Dragon Ball Z logo is displayed on the bottom loop.

GOKU 

is the heart and soul of the Dragon Ball Z series. As one of the last Saiyans, he is Earth’s premier defender against intergalactic threats. The BIG BOLD watch in vibrant orange and black is inspired by Goku’s outfits. The dial features the Japanese symbol for Goku’s name that appears on his dogi, while the back of the strap has Kintoun, a mysterious cloud nimbus.

CELL 

is the artificial life form created by Dr Ice, a former scientist in the Red Ribbon Army, to exact revenge on Goku. The BIG BOLD watch in bright green and black captures the essence of Cell. The pink dots on the hands reflect the colour of his eyes, the yellow crown represents his facial features, and the bottom of the watch strap depicts his lethal black and dark orange tail.

FRIEZA 

is the most well-known villain in the series, involving Goku and his friends in a battle where Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan. Two forms of Frieza are depicted on the GENT watch, white and purple on the front of the watch and pink accents on the back inspired by the villain’s skin, while the red dots resemble his eyes.

MAJIN BUU 

is a villain with many abilities, including being able to turn his opponent into a cookie and absorb their powers. The Buu GENT watch has a black “M” on the yellow dial, taking inspiration from Majin Buu’s gold belt. The purple and pink back of the watch details the larger shape of Buu’s cape and belly.

GOHAN

is the son of Goku. He is the first Saiyan-human hybrid, born on Earth, who attains Super Saiyan form at an early age. The NEW GENT watch features a Kamehameha energy beam design and “KA-ME-HA-ME-HAAAA” printed on the glass dial. The front of the strap has the same pattern given to Gohan by his trainer, Piccolo, while the back has elements of his childhood outfit.

VEGETA 

is the prince of the missing Saiyan race who begins by being cruel and evil and then gains a good heart after fighting Goku. The NEW GENT watch captures Vegeta’s first appearance and the exact moment he realized that Goku’s power level in his Scouter was over 9000, with a representation of Goku’s silhouette on the white dial. The black and white print on the red glass represents the Research Lens he wears, and the back of the watch features his Great Ape form.

KAMESENNIN 

is a martial arts master, and inventor of the famous Kamehameha technique, often accompanied by his talking sea turtle. The NEW GENT watch face is inspired by his famous sunglasses and the back is inspired by his Aloha shirt.

Finally and for the biggest enthusiasts, we also announce that on October 1, 2022, the Shenron x Swatch will be released in two editions, a standard and a special edition numbered.

SHENRON 

is a Divine Dragon that grants any wish to someone who has collected seven Dragon Balls. The BIG BOLD Shenron X Swatch watch incorporates the pattern of the dragon’s green scales and the back mirrors Shenron’s belly. On the bezel, “Tell me your wish” is printed in Japanese and English, while Shenron’s claw stands out on the dial and is surrounded by the seven Dragon Balls.

The watches have been available since August 25, 2022, and can be purchased at Swatch’s physical and online stores with prices between €80 and €130.
