Doxa × Belmont Watches: Meet The Limited SUB 300 Beta “Frogger”
Doxa has teamed up with San Diego-based Belmont Watches for a new limited-edition interpretation of the SUB 300 Beta. Named the SUB 300 Beta “Frogger”, the collaboration takes inspiration from San Diego’s deep naval heritage and the legacy of the Navy Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT), the predecessors of today’s U.S. Navy SEALs.
Rather than adding overt military insignia, Doxa and Belmont Watches have chosen to express the concept through the watch’s colours, finishing and details. The result is a notably utilitarian take on the contemporary SUB 300 Beta, combining a military-inspired green dial with a fully sandblasted stainless-steel exterior.
Only 100 pieces will be produced, making the “Frogger” one of the more exclusive recent additions to Doxa’s SUB collection.
Inspired by San Diego’s Naval Heritage
The collaboration draws directly from Belmont Watches’ home city. San Diego has a long-standing association with the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, while the nearby Naval Amphibious Base Coronado has particular relevance to the UDT and SEAL communities.
The UDT “Frogmen” were specialised underwater demolition and reconnaissance units whose personnel helped form the early ranks of SEAL Team 1. That heritage provides the inspiration for the “Frogger” name and the watch’s military-oriented aesthetic.
Importantly, however, the watch does not carry official military insignia. Instead, the connection is communicated through its design and the engraved caseback.
A Fully Sandblasted SUB 300 Beta
One of the defining characteristics of the SUB 300 Beta “Frogger” is its finishing. For the first time in Doxa’s SUB 300 Beta range, both the stainless-steel case and bracelet receive a fully sandblasted treatment.
The matte surface gives the watch a distinctly functional appearance, reducing the polished or reflective character normally associated with conventional stainless-steel finishing. It also reinforces the tool-watch character that sits beneath the more contemporary styling of the Beta platform.
The case measures 42.50 mm in diameter, with a 44.50 mm lug-to-lug measurement and a thickness of just 11.95 mm. Despite its substantial diameter, the relatively restrained thickness maintains the slimmer profile that distinguishes the SUB 300 Beta from some of Doxa’s more traditional professional divers.
The blacked-out crown complements the matte case, while the overall monochromatic exterior allows the green dial and orange accents to become the main visual elements.
Kelp Green Dial with a Textured Surface
The dial is another major departure from the regular SUB 300 Beta design.
Instead of the familiar wave pattern, the “Frogger” uses a grained kelp-green surface, giving the dial a more subdued and military-inspired appearance. The colour also ties into the green elements used elsewhere on the watch.
The characteristic partial crosshair design remains, extending inward from the four cardinal points of the dial. However, the hour markers have been reworked as applied markers, adding greater depth to the otherwise restrained dial architecture.
The layout is deliberately clean. Beyond the Doxa logo and a small “Swiss Made” indication, there is very little text, leaving the textured green surface and applied markers to dominate the composition.
The hands are particularly distinctive, using an orange handset derived from the style of Doxa’s Army models. The orange introduces a strong contrast against the dark green background while maintaining an unmistakably functional diving-watch aesthetic.
The Signature Doxa Bezel
The “Frogger” retains one of Doxa’s most recognisable functional features: its dual-scale no-decompression bezel.
The bezel is predominantly black, with two separate scales. The elapsed-time scale is highlighted in orange, matching the hands, while the depth scale is rendered in a dark green tone designed to complement the dial.
The black bezel and black crown also give the watch a more tactical appearance than the brighter and more colourful combinations found elsewhere in the SUB 300 family.
San Diego Bay on the Caseback
The collaboration’s strongest geographic reference appears on the reverse of the watch.
The caseback is engraved with a map of San Diego Bay, with Coronado prominently positioned at its centre. It provides a subtle connection to the region’s naval history while avoiding the use of explicit military insignia.
This approach is consistent throughout the watch: the “Frogger” is clearly inspired by military diving history, but it is not presented as an officially affiliated military watch.
Two Strap Options
The “Frogger” comes with more than just its matching stainless-steel bracelet.
Alongside the fully sandblasted stainless-steel bracelet, the watch is supplied with a kelp-green NATO strap, giving owners a second configuration that reinforces the military inspiration behind the collaboration.
The NATO strap is fitted with sandblasted hardware, matching the matte finish of the case and bracelet. The green fabric also closely echoes the colour of the dial, allowing the watch to take on a more overtly military character when worn on the textile strap.
The inclusion of both options makes the package more versatile, with the bracelet offering a more substantial everyday configuration and the NATO providing a lighter, more utilitarian alternative.
Automatic Movement
As is customary with Doxa, the brand has not officially disclosed the movement powering the SUB 300 Beta “Frogger”.
However, based on the mechanical specification used by its SUB 300 Beta siblings, the watch is expected to be powered by the Sellita SW200 automatic movement. This is therefore an inferred specification rather than one officially confirmed by Doxa for the “Frogger”.
The reliable Swiss-made calibre features 26 jewels and operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). It also provides approximately 38 hours of power reserve.
The SW200 is a well-established automatic movement used extensively across the Swiss watch industry, offering a practical combination of reliability, serviceability and proven performance that suits the functional character of the SUB 300 Beta.
Limited to 100 Pieces
The Doxa × Belmont Watches SUB 300 Beta “Frogger” is limited to 100 examples.
The watch is now available exclusively at Belmont Watches. It is priced at USD 2,890.
Beyond its limited production, the collaboration also has a charitable component: a portion of the proceeds from each watch sold will benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation.
