Delma Commander 40mm Debuts In A More Wearable Case Size

Swiss watchmaker Delma expands its pilot watch lineup with the introduction of the new Commander 40mm, a more compact and versatile interpretation of its established Commander collection. Combining a reduced case size with an all-new dial layout, the latest model aims to deliver the practicality of a tool watch in proportions better suited to everyday wear.

A More Compact Commander

The new Commander 40 mm retains the collection’s recognizable design language, featuring a round stainless steel case with elongated, gently curved lugs and a smooth fixed bezel. Compared to the existing 45mm Commander models, the latest version offers significantly more restrained dimensions.

The case measures 40mm in diameter, 11.40 mm thick, and spans 48 mm from lug to lug. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the overall profile provides a balanced presence on the wrist without sacrificing the robust character associated with the collection.

New Military-Inspired Dial

One of the most notable updates is the introduction of a completely redesigned dial. Moving away from the traditional Flieger-style layout used on previous Commander references, Delma has opted for a military-inspired display featuring large Arabic numerals for the primary hour markers.

A secondary 13–24-hour scale is printed within the main hour track, offering quick military-time reading. The date display is positioned at 3 o’clock, replacing the numeral and highlighted by a triangular marker that draws attention to the aperture.

Surrounding the dial is a minute track, complete with numerals and luminous markers at five-minute intervals. The large hour markers are coated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring legibility in low-light conditions.

The handset consists of brushed hour and minute hands filled with Super-LumiNova, accompanied by an arrow-tipped central seconds hand that reaches toward the outer edge of the dial for improved readability.

Reliable Swiss Automatic Movement

Powering the Commander 40mm is the proven Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), the Swiss-made caliber offers a power reserve of approximately 41 hours and is widely recognized for its reliability and ease of service.

Four Dial Variants

Delma launches the Commander 40mm in four dial colors, each offering a distinct personality. Traditional black, blue, and khaki options emphasize the watch’s military-inspired aesthetic, while a salmon dial version introduces a more contemporary and eye-catching alternative.

Each model is paired with a leather strap featuring contrasting stitching and a pin buckle. The black, blue, and khaki dials are matched with corresponding strap colors, while the salmon variant is fitted with a brown leather strap.

The Delma Commander 40mm is available now through authorized retailers and the brand’s distribution network. Offered exclusively on a leather strap, the watch is priced at € 1,050.
