Czapek Introduces The Promenade Transparencies In Aqua Blue

Czapek takes a different approach to the increasingly popular transparent-watch aesthetic with the new Promenade Transparencies Aqua Blue. Rather than exposing the entire movement behind a completely open dial, the brand uses a graduated sapphire construction to reveal the mechanics progressively, combining transparency with a more traditional sense of dial design.

Limited to 38 pieces, the new edition joins the Promenade collection, introduced in 2024 as Czapek’s more elegant and classically influenced line. Its 38 mm stainless steel case makes the watch relatively compact, measuring 10.80 mm thick and 42 mm from lug to lug. Curved lugs and sculpted, hollowed case sides add to its contemporary character, while sapphire crystals on both sides allow the movement to be appreciated from multiple angles. Water resistance is rated at 50 metres.

A dial that gradually disappears

The defining feature is the Aqua Blue sapphire dial. Instead of simply placing a transparent disc over the movement, Czapek creates a blue fumé effect by metallising the underside of the sapphire through vapour deposition.

The treatment becomes progressively denser towards the perimeter, while the centre remains increasingly transparent. This creates a visual transition from a conventional-looking blue dial to a clear window into the movement.

It is an approach that preserves some of the visual structure normally associated with a dial while still making the mechanics an integral part of the display. The hand-applied light blue Super-LumiNova hour markers add another layer of contrast and glow blue in darkness.

The off-centred small seconds at 4:30 further reinforces the watch’s unconventional layout.

The movement becomes part of the dial

The transparency is only possible because of the architecture beneath it. Czapek equips the watch with its SXH7 automatic calibre, a fully skeletonised evolution of the SXH5.

Designed to be viewed from both sides, the movement features seven openworked bridges inspired by the multi-bridge construction found in François Czapek’s historical pocket watches. The architecture was extensively reworked, including the position of the escapement and several components of the winding and setting system.

A platinum micro-rotor provides automatic winding, with the rotor manufactured from 100% recycled platinum. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 60-hour power reserve.

Finishing includes sandblasted rhodium-plated bridges, straight-grained surfaces, openworked ratchets and hand-chamfered angles. With sapphire on both sides, these details are intended to be visible regardless of which side of the watch is facing upwards.

A limited Aqua Blue edition

Czapek completes the watch with a dark blue nubuck leather strap, while a stainless steel Milanese mesh bracelet is available as an alternative.

The Czapek Promenade Transparencies Aqua Blue is limited to 38 examples and priced at € 31,700, before taxes.

Rather than treating transparency as an excuse to remove the dial entirely, Czapek uses sapphire, colour and movement architecture to create a gradual transition between dial and mechanism. The result is a watch that retains the elegance of the Promenade collection while giving its mechanical construction a much more prominent role.
