Countdown To Excellence: Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope For The 2024 Paris Olympic Games
Just 100 days before the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games begins, Omega is launching two editions of the Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope to mark the occasion.
Omega is for the 31st time the Official Timekeeper of the most important sporting event in the world, presenting two Chronoscopes, one in stainless steel and the other in 18k Moonshine Yellow Gold, which comes with a white silvery dial, black sub-dials to match the bezel and golden accents.
The new Speedmaster brings nothing new, featuring the same layout revealed in 2021 at the time of its launch, displaying on the dial two registers at 3 and 9 o’clock and three different scales, namely Tachymeter, Pulsometer and Telemeter.
Thus, the two new Omega Speedmaster Chronoscopes come in a case with dimensions of 43mm wide, 12.80mm high and 48mm lug-to-lug distance, presenting a brushed finish on the surfaces that is only interspersed with a polished treatment of the bevels and elements such as the bezel, crown, pushers and case back ring. Sapphire crystal, tachymeter black insert bezel, fluted crown at 3 o’clock with the brand’s signature and two pump-pushers, screwed solid case back that is engraved with the logo of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in addition to the 5 Olympic rings, and lastly, 50m water resistance.
On the Panda dial we find an opaline background with two recessed black sub-dials with a snail pattern, applied yellow gold Arabic numerals and leaf hands, in the centre the three scales mentioned above and a minute track next to the edges painted in black with the dash of the position of the 12 hours between two dots.
At the heart of the new Speedmaster Chronoscope runs the manual movement Caliber 9908 and 9909 (for the gold one) which are Chronometer certified by COSC, presenting an accuracy of 0 to +5 seconds per day, resisting magnetic fields up to 15,000 Gauss, and which come with twin barrels and a chronograph column wheel, operating 28,800 Vph and offering up to 60 hours of power reserve.
The chronographs can be attached to a 5-link bracelet in the same material as the case with a folding clasp or a calfskin leather strap, with prices starting at €10,500 for the steel version with a leather strap and going up to 57,000 for the gold version with a matching bracelet.
