Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2023
As usual, the prestigious and exclusive Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este took place on May 19, 20 and 21 at Lake Como in Italy, where rare historic vehicles are exhibited.
The event, which this year was jointly organized by the BMW Group Classic and the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este and which brought together true connoisseurs among participants and guests, once again had A. Lange & Söhne as a partner, present in this international competition since 2012 and once again awarded the prize to the “Best of Show” winner.
The award once again translated into a unique piece of the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 CHRONOGRAPH in white gold created exclusively for the winner of the BMW Group “Best of Show” Trophy. A column-wheel chronograph with a jumping minute counter and a flyback function on the solid pink-gold dial with a hand-engraved Concorso coat of arms on the hinged cuvette. Inside it was fitted with the manufactured manual wound movement Caliber L951.5 for the first time presented in 2010.
The winner of this year’s competition was William Lyon, with his Duesenberg SJ Speedster Gurney Nutting from the year 1935, which gathered consensus between jury and public, and was awarded a one-off piece delivered by Lange CEO, Wilhelm Schmid.
Wilhelm Schmid who days earlier announced the strengthening of the watch brand’s connection to motorsport, becoming a sponsor of The Audrain Concours d’Elegance at The Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island in the United States starting this year and which will take place in September, whose importance is clearly evident in his declarations “Classic cars and mechanical watches represent values that are important to us…” and “Cars represent freedom and independence. Watches symbolize the preciousness of time…”.
