Christopher Ward Elevates The Sealander With The C63 True GMT
Christopher Ward C63 Sealander True GMT represents a significant milestone for Christopher Ward, marking the brand’s continued push into in-house movement development and more technically ambitious complications. Positioned within the popular Sealander collection, this model elevates the platform with a true traveller GMT function and a newly developed calibre.

A Familiar Case, Subtly Reworked
At first glance, the watch retains the recognizable design language of the Sealander family, built around Christopher Ward’s Light-catcher case. However, the proportions have been adjusted to accommodate the new movement.

The stainless steel case now measures 40.50 mm in diameter, slightly larger than previous GMT variants, and has a thickness of 14.15 mm. While these dimensions suggest a more substantial presence, the use of a domed sapphire crystal softens the profile visually, giving the watch a more streamlined appearance on the wrist.
The absence of an external 24-hour bezel also contributes to a cleaner silhouette. Instead, the watch is paired with the brand’s well-known three-link Bader bracelet, reinforcing its sporty yet refined character.
Layered Dial Architecture
One of the defining features of the C63 Sealander True GMT is its multi-layered dial construction. Rather than relying on a flat layout, Christopher Ward introduces depth through several distinct elements.
A recessed 24-hour ring sits along the outer edge of the dial, replacing the traditional bezel. Moving inward, a raised hour ring hosts applied indices, creating a clear separation between functional zones. This tiered approach enhances legibility while adding visual complexity.

Further reinforcing the technical aesthetic are three key dial elements: a small seconds subdial positioned at 6 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock, and an openworked aperture at 3 o’clock, offering a view into the GMT mechanism. This openworked section is particularly notable, as it provides a dynamic glimpse of the internal components in motion when adjusting the local hour.
The model is available in two color configurations, a silver-toned dial with orange accents and a darker variant with blue details.
True GMT Functionality Explained
At the core of this watch is its “True GMT” (or traveller GMT) complication. Unlike office GMT systems, where the GMT hand is independently adjustable, a true GMT allows the local hour hand to jump in one-hour increments without stopping the movement.
This functionality is especially practical for frequent travelers, as it enables quick time zone adjustments while maintaining accuracy. The mechanism’s operation is partially visible through the dial aperture, adding an interactive element to the complication.
The In-House CW-002 Calibre
Powering the watch is the CW-002 movement, an in-house calibre developed by Christopher Ward as part of its ongoing mechanical evolution. This movement follows earlier developments like the SH21 architecture, now rebranded under the CW-00X naming system.

Visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback, the movement showcases a skeletonised rotor and refined finishing. Decorative elements include Côtes de Genève striping alongside a mix of brushed and polished surfaces.
Technically, the movement stands out with an impressive 120-hour power reserve, supported by twin barrels. The balance wheel operates at a steady rhythm, emphasizing both performance and visual appeal.
Positioning and Price
With a retail price of € 3,905 on the bracelet and € 3,775 on a rubber strap, the C63 Sealander True GMT is positioned as the most accessible entry point into Christopher Ward’s in-house movement lineup.

Despite its relatively approachable pricing, it delivers a high level of mechanical sophistication, combining a traveller GMT complication with an extended power reserve and a thoughtfully executed dial design.
