Certina Unveils New DS-7 Chronographs With Integrated Bracelet And Mechanical Movement
Certina made a bold move last year by entering the highly competitive sport-chic watch category, introducing a design with an integrated bracelet. Leveraging its affiliation with the Swatch Group, Certina incorporated the widely respected Powermatic 80 movement into the DS-7 series, starting with basic time and date functions. This year, the collection expands with the release of a new chronograph version, marking the first time a mechanical movement has been introduced to the DS-7 line with this complication.
The new Certina DS-7 Chronograph models are housed in a 42mm stainless steel case, which features a mostly brushed finish that gives the watch a sleek yet rugged aesthetic. The integrated bracelet adds a touch of sophistication with polished inner connecting links, while the overall design is completed by a thin metallic tachymeter bezel and a domed sapphire crystal. Functional elements include a fluted crown located at 3 o’clock, flanked by crown guards and two pushers, along with a sapphire case back and water resistance rated to 100 meters.
The dial, inspired by the world of paddling, comes in three colour variants—blue, green, and black—each offering a textured grid pattern. This layout features two chronograph registers: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and running seconds at 9 o’clock, both outlined in white to match the chapter ring. The date window sits at 6 o’clock with a matching white background. Applied hour markers and hands are filled with Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility, while the chronograph centre seconds hand and Certina’s branding at the noon position provide a clean, elegant finish. The words “Automatic” and “DS-7” appear just above the date window, adding a refined touch to the dial.
At the heart of the new Certina DS-7 Chronograph is the ETA A05.231 automatic movement, equipped with a silicon balance spring and Nivachron hairspring. This robust movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (Vph). It offers an impressive power reserve of up to 68 hours, ensuring reliable performance even after extended periods without use.
Set to launch in October, the new Certina DS-7 Chronograph models are priced at CHF 1,685 for the blue and green dial versions, while the black variant comes slightly higher at CHF 1,695.
