Certina Presents The Good Looking DS Super PH1000M
Certina is a Swiss watch brand with great historical traditions producing reliable dive watches at moderate prices.
In this context, recently we have seen the arrival of watches in that category that have been well-received by the public, such as the DS Super PH500M, the DS Super PH200M and the DS Action.
Today the brand presents its latest addition to the line, the new DS Super PH1000M, inspired by models from the 70s and which comes in two variants, one with an attractive orange dial in the form of a limited edition and the other with the classic black dial to which orange details are added and it becomes part of the regular collection.
Thus, the new diving watch arrives in a stainless steel case with more moderate dimensions, featuring a 42mm diameter and 43.50 mm lug-to-lug distance, which makes it fit even the smallest wrists, unidirectional 60-minute bezel with black aluminium insert and with an inverted triangle at 12 o’clock that glows in the dark thanks to Super-LumiNova, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown at 3 o’clock, underneath helium escape valve at 9 o’clock, screwed solid case back engraved with traditional tortoiseshell which is the image of the brand’s line, and the incredible 1000m of water resistance.
On the dial, applied hour markers and hands are all filled with the same luminescent material that we find on the outer bezel, a printed minute track in black on the limited edition and in white on the regular edition that combines with the inscriptions of the brand at noon and the model at 6 o’clock, a date window with a white background positioned next to the crown, a lollipop centre seconds hand and finally an orange outlined minute hand.
Inside it operates the Powermatic 80 automatic movement from the Swatch Group of which Certina is a part, operating 21,600 Vph and offering the much-appreciated 80 hours of power reserve.
The watch comes attached to a black rubber strap or a two-piece nylon strap made from recycled material collected in the ocean, with prices ranging from CHF 900 for the limited edition to CHF 845 for the regular edition.
Our Opinion
Certina continues to be one of those undervalued and often underappreciated brands, however, it continues to bring unquestionable value to the market with reliable, good-looking watches at very competitive prices.
The new DS Super PH1000M is another incredible offer from the brand in terms of value for the money. An impressive 1000m of water resistance, reliable mechanical movement, a very good-looking dial and an unbeatable price below €1,000.
Of the two models, the limited edition with an orange dial is by far our favourite and we believe that the CHF 55 extra charge compared to the regular edition seems perfectly fair to us.
