Certina DS Action 40MM Arrives With Fresh Design And Quartz Movement
Certina has expanded its DS Action collection with the introduction of the new 40mm variant, bridging the gap between the existing 38mm and 43mm sizes. This latest release maintains the brand’s commitment to durability and precision, featuring a refreshed design and a high-performance Quartz movement. Additionally, a 34.50mm version has also been announced, but details on that model will be covered separately.
The new Certina DS Action 40mm arrives in four distinct variants, three of which come in stainless steel with black, green, and blue dials. The blue dial model stands out with its two-tone case, while a titanium edition features a striking light blue dial with gilt accents. These variations cater to different tastes, maintaining the collection’s strong identity while offering fresh aesthetics.
Built for diving, the DS Action 40mm features a robust case with a primarily brushed finish, measuring 11.20mm in thickness. The unidirectional bezel has been refined with a narrower profile and now includes an anodized aluminum insert matching the dial color. The bezel also incorporates a diving scale and a luminescent pip at 12 o’clock for enhanced underwater readability. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the fluted screw-down crown, adorned with the “DS” logo and guarded on both sides, ensures water resistance up to 300 meters. The solid case back features Certina’s embossed turtle emblem, a signature of the collection’s diving heritage.
The redesigned dial offers improved legibility and symmetry. Applied hour markers and a three-hand setup are filled with Super-LumiNova BG W9, emitting a striking turquoise glow in the dark. A notable update is the repositioned date window at 6 o’clock, which, combined with the reduced text on the dial, enhances visual balance. The rehaut now includes Arabic numerals every five minutes instead of the previous solitary “60” at noon, contributing to a more refined aesthetic.
Powering the DS Action 40mm is the Swiss PreciDrive Quartz Caliber ETA F06.412, featuring three jewels and delivering exceptional accuracy of +/- 10 seconds per year. The movement also includes a low-battery indicator, ensuring reliability. While this version debuts with a Quartz movement, a Powermatic 80 automatic variant is expected to follow in the coming months, aligning with the evolution of its predecessors.
Each model is fitted with a three-link bracelet that matches the case material. The bracelet features polished central links and a folding clasp engraved with the brand’s signature. Pricing for the new Certina DS Action 40mm collection starts at CHF 425 for the stainless steel versions, CHF 465 for the two-tone model, and CHF 495 for the titanium edition, making them an attractive option for those seeking a well-built, stylish, and high-performing dive watch.
