Celebrating Half A Century Of Tornado Aircraft: Hanhart’s Limited Edition Chronograph
In the year that celebrates 50 years of service of Europe’s longest multi-role combat aircraft, the Tornado, Hanhart has teamed up with Panavia Aircraft GmbH responsible for the Tornado program to mark this historic milestone with a limited edition of Hanhart 417 ES Tornado Maiden Flight Flyback.
It was exactly on August 14, 1974, that the Tornado Maiden’s first flight took place, lasting 33 minutes. It would come to supply the air force of three European countries, namely Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom, and additionally Saudi Arabia, having fought in the Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm) in the service of coalition forces.
The exclusive chronograph wears a 39mm 417 ES stainless steel case similar to the one that supplied the Bundeswehr (the unified armed forces of Germany) between 1950 and 1963 and comes with a polished and satin finish. Sapphire crystal front, bidirectional coin-edge bezel with a red marker at noon, fluted crown with the brand’s signature at 3 o’clock flanked by two pushers, screwed solid case back adorned with a Tornado with wings folded in stealth flight mode and 100m watertight.
On the black dial, we find Arabic numerals and syringe hands filled with beige Super-LumiNova, two registers at 3-9 o’clock with a 30-minute counter and a running seconds with a background cocarde (Tornado logo) in the colours of the three nations participants.
Inside it is powered by the Sellita AMT 5100 M hand-wound movement, a flyback chronograph with column wheel, which runs 28,800 Vph and offers up to 58 hours of power reserve.
The celebratory chronograph is attached to a black leather strap with white stitching and a steel buckle pin. The 148-piece are individually numbered on the back case and priced at €2,590.
