A Closer Look At Tudor’s New Release: The Black Bay Chrono Pink

And there’s the new Tudor Black Bay Chrono Pink, the brand’s first official launch of 2024.

The new timepiece, which according to the brand will be rare but not a limited edition, has as its main points of interest the obvious pink dial and the 5-link Jubilee-type bracelet.

As has become usual, the new BB Chrono that arrives now had previously been spotted on the wrist of Taiwanese musical star Jay Chou and football star David Beckham, both ambassadors of the brand, and so it made us guess that sooner or later we would be faced with this novelty.

The watch, from what has been released and from what can be seen in the photos, in addition to the new hue of the dial and new bracelet, offers nothing new than its peers, once again wearing the stainless steel case measuring 41mm in diameter, 14.60mm thick and 50.10mm lug-to-lug distance which comes with a mainly satin-brushed finish. Domed sapphire crystal, black anodized aluminium tachymeter bezel, screw-down crown and pushers, and 200m water resistance announced red on the dial.

The Panda dial in pink comes with two registers, a 45-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a running seconds at 9 o’clock and a date window at 6 o’clock with a white background. Applied hour markers and hands, including the snowflake one, all filled with Super-LumiNova, a Chronograph centre seconds hand with a red arrow-shaped tip and the black inscriptions of the brand at noon and “Chronometer Officially Certified” at 6.

Inside we can find the same Caliber MT5813 automatic movement that also equips the rest of the collection, with a column wheel that operates 28,800 Vph and offers up to 70 hours of power reserve.

In addition to what has already been said regarding the 5-link steel bracelet, it should also be noted that it comes equipped with the modern T-Fit clasp that we have seen on the brand’s latest additions and which users highly appreciate.

For now, it is not known how many units will be produced and how they will be distributed, however, the price is already known and is marked at €5,670.

Our Opinion

It is without a doubt one of the pieces that we will want to take a closer look at Watches And Wonders, despite not bringing anything new from the past, its soft pink dial combined with the elegance of the new bracelet makes us like it at first sight. If even we add its announced scarcity, we would say that even before the match, Tudor starts with an advantage.

Leaked Images Spark Excitement: Could Tudor Unveil A Revised Black Bay Fifty-Eight?

About five months ago what appears to have been a Tudor Leak appeared in the UK Esquire magazine, which generated some buzz in the watchmaking community.

We confess that this scoop completely passed us by, however it was revived a few days ago among the community, which made us look at it with different eyes.

After analyzing the photos, we can see that the first hypothesis raised by some, which could have been a simple error of placing the photo of Black Bay 54 in place of Black Bay Fifth-Eight, quickly falls apart, as the photo reveals a different Black Bay. .

Yes, it’s true that at first glance it appears to be a Black Bay 54, as it comes with a bezel with white markers instead of gilt ones, a grey inverted triangle at 12 o’clock instead of red, a larger crown and a lollipop second hand on the place of the previous snow-flake pointer.

But if we look carefully again we can see that there are differentiating details that are neither from the Black Bay 54 nor the current Black Bay Fifth-Eight, but what specifically are we talking about? First on the bezel, which is now thinner and this is clearly noticeable making the dial larger, then we can notice that the first 15 minutes come with hash markers, and with the modern ‘Fifth-Eight’ font and not the classic from BB54, the remaining baton markers also seem less bold to us. The other less pronounced differences occur on the dial, where we can notice the reduction or even absence of the chapter ring and finally, larger hands.

All of this makes us believe that we could be facing what could well be the second generation of the Tudor Black Bay Fifth-Eight, if not why would anyone go to the trouble of redesigning a watch to put it live? We do not intend here to discuss whether or not it was a consented Leak, but the truth it’s happened.

Of course, the images also served to discuss what remained and what should have been changed before, we are talking first about the bracelet rivets which are not to the taste of many fans of which we also include ourselves, the dial which remains too busy with several lines of text, wide snow-flake hands and different geometric shapes hour markers.

Christmas Picks – Commitment Budget by Our Team

Yesterday we started the first of three articles in which members of our team present suggestions for Christmas based on this year’s launches for three different budgets, yesterday we kicked things off with the Friendly Budget up to €1,000 and today we asked again to our team to present us with five new suggestions but now for the Commitment Budget between €1,001 and €5,000, and moving immediately to the choices.

Alpina Alpiner Automatic Extreme California Dial

It is perhaps one of the most surprising novelties brought by Alpina, which few would have expected, but which works very well, and often makes us question how no one had come up with that idea yet.

Its robust cushion-shaped case with a brushed finish, a black grained California dial materialized in Roman and Arabic numerals in beige tones and a black rubber strap to match the dial, make the watch very attractive.

Without having the stealthy look of watches that come dressed in code black, the new Alpiner Extreme doesn’t seem to like pampering but rather action, in addition to its look it comes with 200m of water resistance that doesn’t inhibit underwater activities, and an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW 200-1 which, in addition to its reliability, has affordable maintenance.

The watch arrives this month and at a nice price of around €1,800.

Oris Divers Sixty-Five Date Cotton Candy Sepia

It was perhaps the watch that was missing from the Cotton Candy collection, a black dial that comes with gilt accents filled with beige luminescent material to match the tone of the bronze case.

What I like most about the collection is the fact that it comes in a moderately sized case that allows me, as well as many other people with more elegant wrists, to wear the watch without it looking too big, and its 38mm diameter allow it.

Another new feature that this Oris brings is that the date window comes in the same color of the dial, it’s a shame that the Arabic numerals on the date disc don’t come in beige, which would be the perfection.

Inside it comes with the usual Caliber 733 based on the Sellita SW200-1 with an acceptable 41 hours of power reserve, which, although it is not the In-house Caliber 400, is acceptable given its relatively affordable price.

The watch is available with two strap options, with a bronze bracelet or a black ‘Tropic’ rubber strap, I prefer the second option as it seems more elegant and less ostentatious but as the rule here is to always buy with a bracelet, that’s all said. The price is €2,450 for the rubber strap option and €2,750 for the bronze bracelet.

Tudor Black Bay 54

That was one of the sensations of this year’s edition of Watches And Wonders and when we were all waiting for a new variant of Tudor’s ‘Blockbuster’, the Black Bay Fifth Eight, the brand managed to pull a new trick out of its sleeve, now bringing the new Black Bay 54.

No one was expecting this news but the truth is that once again it was very well received, despite some arguing that the new 37mm diameter dive watch was too small, two millimeters smaller than the Fifth Eight, but it was just fireworks, as the crowd loved it and so did we.

In addition to the width, the watch is thinner and therefore wears more elegantly, in addition to the size, the brand also resolved some of the ‘imperfections’ that plagued its Fifth Eight brother, such as the edge-coin bezel that now comes with larger teeth, the crown that no longer came with the ring that connected it to the case, the scale of the insert bezel started to come in white and without the red inverted triangle at noon which, compared to the gilt accents on the dial, seemed too much for many, better sized hands and a lollipop center seconds hand instead of the snowflake format. To finish off a tappered bracelet with the much-loved T-FIT clasp with micro adjustments.

The icing on the cake was the price between €3,730 and €3,950 for the leather strap or steel bracelet options, values that are below the brand’s coqueluxe BB Fifth Eight.

Grand Seiko SGBW301

Two years ago for the same budget range I brought the 34mm Grand Seiko SBGX347, a smaller version of the last model presented a few days ago by the brand and which I bring you today, the SGBW301.

I’ve never hidden it and continue to prefer simple, classic models, and this Grand Seiko is all that, it’s harmonious, discreet, unpretentious but elegant, exuding a lot of class.

Its 37mm by 11.70mm stainless steel case comes with the untouchable Zaratsu polished finish outside and on its ivory dial it only reserves space for the applied diamond-cut hour markers and faceted Dauphine hands, perfection.

As expected, it comes powered by a manual movement, which is another of my preferences, with the Caliber 9S64 offering three days of power reserve.

The watch comes attached to a black crocodile leather strap which works very well, the price here is €5,100 but it varies from country to country depending on taxes and therefore in many others it will be below €5,000 and that was the reason why we decided to include it in the budget.

Longines Master Collection “Small Seconds”

Following the format of the trio of watches presented to mark the brand’s 190th anniversary, the new Longines Master Collection comes in a more compact 38.50mm wide steel case with a fully polished finish.

The watch’s biggest asset is its beautiful dial, which captures our eyes, with a vertical brushed salmon background, featuring impeccably engraved Breguet numerals that match the two centre leaf hands and dot minute track on the chapter ring and finally an underneath small seconds at 6 o’clock.

Inside there is no room for inventions operating the Caliber L893.5 based on the ETA A31.501 which offers a comfortable three days of power reserve.

The watch comes attached to a black alligator leather strap and is priced at €2,650.

Tudor Pelagos FXD Now Arrives In Black

I must confess that when I heard about this unexpected launch I almost wished it was something exciting like the return of the Ranger in 36mm for example. Still, I quickly realized from the signs that something else was coming, and yesterday when I saw the first images of the “new” Pelagos FXD shortly after I had it in my hands I asked myself – What was new besides a new colour variation? Some people who had also been invited to the presentation said that it was the titanium case, but that was not true as we never met the Pelagos in a different material, with the exception of the FXD Alinghi Red Bull Racing in carbon fibre, unfortunately, or not, in the end, I was right and there was very little new to add.

Having made the introductions or rants if you prefer, let’s move on to the new Pelagos. If in 2021 the narrative that served as inspiration for the introduction of the new Pelagos FXD Marine Nationale (MN) was the French Navy, the stimulus of the newcomer is the MilSub (Military Submarine) used by the US Navy Seals in the 60s, animated in a set of photos and films from the archives.

The new Pelagos FXD arrives with exactly the same characteristics as the previous one, wearing a 42mm diameter titanium case with fixed lugs (which in reality should rather be called fixed spring bars), satin-brushed finish, unidirectional titanium bezel with a black ceramic insert and scale filled with Super-LumiNova, fluted crown at 3 o’clock protected by crown guards, steel screwed case back now without any special inscriptions, and the same 200m water resistance.

The black dial that matches the tone of the bezel is the “big” new feature if you remember that in the MN version, they came in shades of blue, almost everything else remains unchanged with applied indices and snowflake hands filled with the same luminescent material of the bezel, no date window, logo and brand’s lettering at noon and the same four lines of text at 6 o’clock, with the name Pelagos now painted in red on the mirror of the FXD Alinghi Red Bull Racing Editions introduced already this year.

And if on the outside everything is very similar, on the inside everything is the same, powered by the In-house Caliber MT5602 automatic movement, which is a COSC-certified Chronometer, with a silicone hairspring, operating at 28,800 Vph and offering up to 70 hours of power reserve.

It comes attached to a one-piece khaki-green fabric strap with a red stripe, which is also joined by a one-piece black rubber strap that completes the set.

As for prices, the black version of the Pelagos FXD reaches €4,220, remembering that the blue MN version in 2021 cost €3,740, two years (not yet done) later it’s 13% more expensive.

Our Opinion

Although it is frustrating to sometimes create great expectations around just one new variant, we have to recognize that the black version of the Pelagos FXD is very welcome as many people continue to prefer the classic black to blue, it is no coincidence that brands usually choose to launch neutral colours first and then gradually introduce new colours. And we prefer this unique colouring to the previous one.

We also have to recognize that Tudor has been doing a great job in storytelling, very well explored in videos and promotional material, after all who doesn’t like wearing a watch that is reminiscent of the models worn by the military of the navy’s special forces, be it US, French or other?

The New Tudor Pelagos “Alinghi Red Bull Racing” Arrive in Carbon and With a Chronograph Variant

Two new Tudor Pélagos FXD have just arrived, which for the first time come in a carbon composite case and now include a chronograph variant.

The new watches serve to mark the partnership established at the beginning of last year between Tudor and “Alinghi Red Bull Racing” within the competitive world of sailboat racing.

The new diving watches share the same case made of black carbon composite and which also combines Titanium and stainless steel, the same materials used in the racing sailboat Hydrafall AC75 (America’s CUP 75).

So we have a variant that only offers the time function and comes with a 42mm diameter case with reference 25707KN and a 43mm version that combines the time and date functions with a chronograph complication with reference 25807KN.

On the outside, the carbon composite of the cases also extends to the black bezel insert that comes with a 60-minute scale illuminated by the Super-LumiNova X1 inserted in it. The bidirectional 120-click bezel, as well as the crown, and the two pushers of the chronograph version, are made of Titanium, while the screw-in case back is in stainless steel engraved with “Alinghi Red Bull Racing”.

The dials of the two Divers have a matte blue colouration, the same as we can find on the “Team Blue” and on the hull of the AC75. Ceramic-composite applied hour markers that, together with the snowflake hands, are filled with luminescent material, a red centre seconds hand matching the red inscription of the watch’s model name at 6 o’clock and a minute chapter ring with the inscription of “Alinghi Red Bull Racing” between 10 and 2 o’clock

Inside are the manufacturer Caliber MT5602 and the MT5813 based on the manufacturer Caliber Breitling 01 that power the 42 and 43mm watches respectively, both being COSC certified, boasting an accuracy of -2/+ 4 seconds per day and offering up to 70 hours of power reserve.

The new Pelagos are attached to a blue fabric strap with red accents and a velcro closure system.

The watches are already available in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers with prices ranging from €3,650 for the simplified time version to €5,070 for the chronograph version.

Christie’s Watches Makes Over CHF 40 Million

Last weekend was marked by the Geneva auctions that took place in the main auction houses, among them Christie’s, which for two days presented 199 pieces distributed in two main lots:

Lot “Rare Watches” took place on the 13th of May, where 159 lots were presented resulting in a total of CHF 26.5 Million in which 98% of the total pieces were sold.

Lot “The Art of F.P. Journe” which happened on the 12th of May, presented a total of 40 lots at auction, which was fully sold for CHF 13.7 Million.

During these two days 6 watches were sold for over CHF 1 Million and 4 for over CHF 500,000, and among bidders and buyers, 52% were from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), 24% Americas and 24% Asia Pacific (APAC).

The top seller of the Lot “The Rare Watches”:

– Lot 84, Steel Patek Philippe for Tiffany & Co., sold for CHF 2,233,000

– Lot 138, Patek Philippe Ref. 3974 2497R, sold for CHF 1,918,000

Tudor Brings Updates to the Black Bay and Royal Collections.

Tudor’s big surprise at Watches and Wonders this year was the Black Bay 54 which we’ve already talked about here but there are a few more that we’re going to talk about.

Black Bay 41

The Black Bay diver version with the burgundy bezel undergoes the third renovation since its creation.

On the outside, the case is now rounder with slab sides, and 1mm thinner, it also receives a new, more elegant crown and without the previous ring that separated the case from the crown. There is now also the possibility of coming with a new 5-link steel bracelet, Jubilee style or with a black rubber strap with solid end links, and both now come with the handy T-FIT clasp.

On the dial, there is only one novelty and that extends to the entire Black Bay line, the snowflake second hand is gone and now gives way to a lollipop second hand.

But the biggest news is really the new movement, which is Master Chronometer certified by METAS.

Of all the novelties, this is the one that least changes, whose main novelty is the new opaline white dial with the Pepsi bezel, in blue and red, everything else remains the same, with the exception of the bracelet clasp which now includes also the T-FIT clasp.

Black Bay 31/36/39/41

The Black Bay line with a fixed bezel receives three new colour variants, one in deep blue, another in anthracite and finally one in champagne, with the possibility of all of them coming with diamonds on the hour markers.

As we had already mentioned in Black Bay 41, the snowflake second hand now gives way to a lollipop second hand and on the outside, they come with a 5-link bracelet with the T-FIT clasp and on the inside, all models now come equipped with an In-house movement.

Royal

The Royal line also receives an update, now adding two new variants, one in salmon which can come in a steel case and the other in chocolate brown which comes in a gold and steel case, and with the possibility of both them adding diamonds on the dial.

Tudor Surprises Again Now With the Unlikely Black Bay 54

When we all expected that Tudor would come up with a new Black Bay Fifty Eight, the brand in a stroke of magic surprises with the new Black Bay 54, which comes with a reduced case of 37mm diameter, 11.24mm thickness and a lug-to-lug distance of 46mm.

And if at first glance the new Black Bay 54 looks the same as its middle brother Fifty Eight, it has more novelties in addition to size. We are talking about a new crown and a new edge bezel, which together with flattening sapphire crystal contributes a lot to the thinness of the new stainless steel case. Everything else on the exterior remains the same, continuing to have 200m of water resistance, which fans lot appreciate, and the unidirectional bezel with 60 clicks with the luminous inverted triangle marker at 12 o’clock.

The dial has no novelties, as the brand here is conservative and is back to betting on the classic black dial with gilt accents.

Inside, the new Black Bay 54 comes equipped with the automatic movement Caliber MT 5400 that is COSC certified, operating at 28,800 Vph and offering 70 hours of power reserve.

Finally, one more novelty translated into the strap, since either the option for the steel bracelet or the rubber strap both are now tapered, from the 20mm wide lugs to 18mm to the clasp and both feature the T-FIT micro-adjustment system.

Our Opinion

We are not going to lie and say that we had anticipated this launch, on the contrary, we were as surprised as everyone else, and the sentence that best describes our opinion is that we loved it.

We had the opportunity to try it on our hands on the first day of Watches and Wonders and if in pictures it looks interesting on the wrist it’s great. We also had the opportunity to speak with the Tudor design team and learn in detail about the new 54 and it is truly amazing.
