200 Years Of Precision: Moritz Grossmann Launches Anniversary Tefnut
In 2026, Moritz Grossmann commemorates the 200th anniversary of its founder, Karl Moritz Grossmann, a pivotal figure in establishing Glashütte as a centre of fine watchmaking. Marking this milestone, the independent Saxon manufacture introduces a refined and highly exclusive edition of its Tefnut collection: the Silver-Plated by Friction Gold Editions.
Rather than revisiting historical designs, the brand continues to express its watchmaking philosophy through modern interpretations of traditional techniques, placing emphasis on precision, hand-finishing, and understated elegance.
Slim Case, Now in Two Gold Variants
The new Tefnut Silver-Plated by Friction models are housed in a 39 mm case with a thickness of just 8.50 mm, maintaining the collection’s signature slim profile. The case design is intentionally restrained, featuring a polished finish throughout, a narrow bezel, and gently curved lugs that ensure a balanced presence on the wrist.

For this anniversary release, the watch is offered in both white gold and, for the first time in this line, yellow gold. While the white gold version preserves the more discreet aesthetic typical of the collection, the yellow gold introduces a warmer and more expressive character.
A Rare Dial Technique: Silver-Plated by Friction
One of the defining elements of this edition is its dial, crafted using the traditional silver-plating by friction technique. This rarely used 19th-century method is executed entirely by hand within the manufacture.

The process involves applying a mixture of silver powder, salt, and cream of tartar onto the dial surface, which is then carefully brushed and treated until it develops a fine, matte grain. The result is a soft, velvety texture that subtly interacts with light, giving the dial depth without relying on gloss or ornamentation.
Green Accents and Handcrafted Details
For the anniversary edition, green has been introduced as a distinctive design element. Roman numerals, the minute track, and the historic “M. Grossmann 1875” logo are all rendered in this tone, adding contrast while maintaining the watch’s refined aesthetic.

The lance-shaped hands are individually handcrafted, undergoing a meticulous multi-stage process. The white gold model features heat-treated steel hands in the brand’s signature brown-violet hue, while the yellow gold version is fitted with polished gold hands, complementing the case material.
Calibre 102.1: Traditional Saxon Watchmaking
Visible through the sapphire caseback is the in-house calibre 102.1, a hand-wound movement measuring just over 3.50 mm in height. Its architecture follows classic Glashütte principles, including a 3/5 plate construction and screwed gold chatons.

The movement showcases a high level of finishing, combining frosted, ribbed, and polished surfaces, all enhanced by hand-bevelled edges. The balance cock is finely shaped and equipped with a micrometric adjustment system, while a subtle engraving of “1826” pays tribute to the birth year of the founder.
Operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, the calibre is equipped with a large balance wheel and delivers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.
