Naoya Hida And The Armoury Unveil The Exquisite Floating Feathers
Japanese independent watchmaker Naoya Hida & Co. continues to expand its reputation for exceptional craftsmanship with the unveiling of the new Floating Feathers, created in collaboration with menswear retailer The Armoury.

Following the recent presentation of the brand’s ambitious 2026 collection, this exclusive new release arrives as one of the most artistic and technically refined creations ever produced by the Japanese manufacture.
Based on the vintage-inspired Type 4 platform, the Floating Feathers combines traditional handcraftsmanship, meticulous finishing and rare decorative techniques in a highly limited edition of only 10 watches.
A 36mm Dress Watch With Classic Proportions
The watch comes in a polished 36 mm case crafted from 904L stainless steel, a material more commonly associated with high-end luxury sports watches due to its superior corrosion resistance and bright finish.

Its elegant proportions are complemented by beautifully sculpted lyre lugs that reinforce the watch’s classic mid-century aesthetic. The case profile remains slim and refined, staying faithful to the understated philosophy that defines Naoya Hida creations.
Completing the exterior is a charcoal gray calfskin strap handmade by Jean Rousseau, adding a discreetly luxurious touch to the overall design.
The Hand-Engraved Argentium Silver Dial
The centerpiece of the Floating Feathers is undoubtedly its extraordinary dial.
Produced from Argentium silver, a modern silver alloy known for its enhanced resistance to tarnishing, the dial features an intricate composition of three floating feathers delicately engraved by master artisan Keisuke Kano.

Rather than being painted or printed, every feather is individually hand-engraved directly into the silver surface. The dial is then bead-blasted, creating a subtle matte texture that contrasts beautifully with the polished engraved sections, allowing the feathers to shimmer under changing light.
The level of detail is remarkable, with each individual barb of the feathers carefully carved by hand, showcasing the extraordinary skill involved in the dial’s creation.
The artistic concept was developed by The Armoury co-founder Mark Cho together with designer Elliot Hammer, drawing inspiration from mid-century cloisonné dials featuring birds. Instead of depicting the birds themselves, the pair chose to focus on the more subtle imagery of feathers, creating a minimalist yet highly evocative composition.
Exceptional Attention to Detail
Beyond the engraved artwork, the Floating Feathers incorporates several refined details that further highlight the watch’s artisanal character.

The faceted hour and minute hands are crafted from hand-polished yellow gold, while the heat-blued steel minute hand features a distinctive “caviar spoon” counterweight. The applied hour markers are made from solid 18k gold spheres, individually polished and manually set into the dial.
Even the engraved signatures of Naoya Hida and The Armoury are executed using ultra-precise micro-milling techniques, demonstrating the obsessive attention to detail present throughout the watch.
Manually Wound Caliber 3020CS
Powering the Floating Feathers is the manually wound Caliber 3020CS, developed by Naoya Hida & Co.

The movement features a specially designed click and click spring mechanism engineered to provide a particularly refined tactile sensation during winding. As expected from the independent Japanese watchmaker, the movement finishing follows a traditional approach with carefully executed decoration and hand-finishing techniques.
Visible through the sapphire caseback, the caliber reinforces the brand’s commitment to combining mechanical refinement with artisanal craftsmanship.
