Discover Monbrey’s MB2 Kenkyū: A Tribute To Japanese Craftsmanship

Monbrey, a Hong Kong-based microbrand established in 2021, has unveiled its latest timepiece collection, the MB2 Kenkyū. This new series features seven distinct watch models, each showcasing textured dials inspired by Japan’s rich Samurai era.

These watches are meticulously designed, housed in a 37.50mm stainless steel case that measures 11.80mm in thickness and 45mm in length, with a combination of brushed finishes on the surfaces and polished details on the bevels, bezel profile, and crown. The boxed sapphire crystal enhances durability, while the fluted crown at the 3 o’clock position bears Monbrey’s signature mark, contributing to the watch’s refined aesthetic. With a solid case back and a water resistance of up to 100 meters, the MB2 Kenkyū watches are designed for everyday reliability and style.

The dial variations in the MB2 Kenkyū collection celebrate Japanese craftsmanship with intricate textures and colours. Three models feature a “Mother of Pearl” dial inspired by the armour of Bishamon, the Japanese warrior god symbolizing justice. These CNC-machined dials come in light blue, green, and pink shades, adding a touch of elegance and cultural homage. The remaining four variants display a “Jewel Steel” texture, inspired by Tamahagane, the traditional Japanese sword steel, and are available in vibrant hues of purple, navy blue, brown, and black.

Each dial in the collection features faceted silver hour markers, with an inverted triangle at noon, complemented by the luminescent hour and minute hands and a needle-shaped centre seconds hand. A raised minute chapter ring circles the dial, with the brand’s embossed lettering positioned at the 12 o’clock mark for a distinctive touch.

Underneath the dial, the MB2 Kenkyū watches are powered by the reliable Miyota 9039 automatic movement, operating at 28,800 Vph and providing up to 40 hours of power reserve, ensuring consistent timekeeping. Accompanying each timepiece is a 20mm stainless steel bracelet with H-shaped links and a secure folding clasp, alongside an Italian leather strap in black with a steel pin, allowing for versatile styling options.

Currently available for pre-order at €465.95, the MB2 Kenkyū collection is set to increase in price by approximately 25% once the pre-sale period concludes. This collection blends cultural inspiration with modern watchmaking, making it a unique addition to the Monbrey lineup.
