Kudoke 5: A Technical Evolution In Celestial Timekeeping

German independent watchmaker Kudoke introduces the Kudoke 5, the latest addition to its HANDwerk collection, characterized by mechanical artistry and distinctive design. Building upon the framework of the Kudoke 2, this new timepiece places a strong emphasis on a refined 24-hour rotating disc, now elevated as the primary time-telling element.

At the heart of the Kudoke 5 is a 38mm stainless steel case measuring 12mm in height, including the domed sapphire crystal, with a water resistance of 50 meters. While the silhouette introduces subtle changes, Kudoke preserves signature cues such as the onion-shaped crown and contrast between polished and brushed finishes, maintaining coherence with previous models in the collection.

The dial architecture is notably centered around a prominent two-tone celestial disc, crafted through galvanic processing and meticulous hand engraving. This disc completes one full rotation every 24 hours and serves as both the hour and minute display. Time is indicated via a gold pointer set against a dial ring marked in 15-minute intervals, accompanied by triangular indices and numerals at even hours.

The disc itself is functionally split into day and night sectors: one half features a darker engraving of the Ursa Minor constellation, while the opposite side is rendered in gold, bearing a stylized sun. The position of the golden pointer relative to these sectors doubles as a day/night indicator, delivering both practical information and aesthetic symbolism.

Powering the Kudoke 5 is a modified version of the in-house Kaliber 1 movement, originally developed in collaboration with Habring². This manual-winding caliber has been re-engineered to support the increased size and complexity of the rotating disc, which operates via an integrated ball-bearing mechanism. The movement is visible through the sapphire caseback and showcases traditional finishing, including frosted bridges, polished bevels, and a hand-engraved balance cock bearing the Kudoke infinity symbol. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 46-hour power reserve.

The watch is delivered on either a leather or Alcantara strap, fastened by a stainless steel pin buckle, with a folding clasp available as an alternative. Priced at €17,900 (excluding VAT), the Kudoke 5 is scheduled for release in Fall 2025, with the first series marking a new chapter in Kudoke’s approach to artistic yet functional watchmaking.
