Hanhart brings back the white pilot’s chronograph that supplied the German Navy.
The Hanhart 417 is a flieger chronograph produced for the German armed forces for a few years ago and which was discontinued at the beginning of the 60s. Among them were some with a white dial, hence the nickname “Moby Dick”, which were mainly intended to navy high patents such as admirals and doctors. It was just over four years ago that the pilot’s chronograph was revived by the brand and today the same is happening with this sought after variant.
The new Hanhart 417 ES Moby Dick comes in a polished stainless steel case measuring 42mm wide by 13.30mm thick, featuring the famous bi-directional coin-edge bezel with a beige marker at 12 o’clock instead of the usual red hue, domed sapphire crystal, big crown at 3 o’clock with the brand’s retro logo flanked by two pump-pushers, screwed solid case back and 100m water resistance.
The white dial that is quite faithful to the original comes with a Bi-Compax layout materialized by a 30-minute register at 3 o’clock that comes with an arrow-type hand, and a running seconds at 9 o’clock. In it we can also find printed Arabic numerals and blue hands all filled with beige Super-LumiNova, a black minute track matching the brand’s inscriptions at noon, followed by “23 Jewels” referring to the movement and “Shockproof” at 6 o’clock.
Inside runs the Sellita SW510 manual movement that replaces the discontinued Caliber 42 of the original, operating at 28,800 Vph and now offering up to 58 hours of power reserve.
The chronograph is attached to a brown calfskin leather strap with white stitching and a steel pin buckle that comes with a price of €1,940.
