Delma Shell Star Evolves With Big Date And Gradient Dials
Delma expands its renowned Shell Star collection with a bold new model that integrates a practical Big Date complication into a classic dive watch framework. Engineered for demanding underwater environments yet styled with contemporary aesthetics, the Shell Star Big Date blends high-performance features with a nod to the brand’s heritage.
A Case Built for Depth
The watch is housed in a solid 44mm stainless steel case that measures 13.8mm thick and spans 51mm lug-to-lug. Designed to withstand pressures at depths of up to 500 meters, it includes essential diving components such as a screw-down crown with protective guards and a helium escape valve positioned at 9 o’clock. The case design adopts a barrel shape with a brushed surface and a contrasting polished bevel that accentuates its silhouette.
Functional Bezel and Crystal Caseback
A unidirectional rotating bezel with 120 clicks surrounds the dial, featuring a black anodised aluminum insert with wide notches for enhanced grip, even with gloves. A luminous pip at the 12 o’clock position aids underwater timing. On the reverse side, an unusual touch for a professional dive watch: a screw-fastened caseback fitted with a mineral glass window offers a view of the automatic movement within.
Big Date Complication at Noon
Setting this model apart from traditional divers is the large-format date display located at 12 o’clock. The twin aperture Big Date is bordered by an orange frame, reinforcing Delma’s signature color palette. Black numerals on white date wheels ensure optimal legibility.
Gradient Dials and Bold Luminescence
The Shell Star Big Date is available with either a blue or brown (which to our eyes looks more burgundy) gradient sunray dial, a modern update that contrasts with the matte finishes of previous iterations. Hour markers are framed in orange, paired with bold sword-shaped hands. The central seconds hand is also orange, offering a visual balance. All time-telling elements are treated with Super-LumiNova CN5 for visibility in low-light conditions. The minute track has been refined with a stepped layout, delivering both visual interest and enhanced readability.
Powered by Swiss Engineering
At the heart of the watch is the ETA 2892-A2 automatic movement, enhanced with a Jaquet 3512 Big Date module. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz), it delivers a power reserve of 42 hours. The Delma-signed rotor is visible through the rear crystal, underscoring the mechanical nature of the timepiece.
Bracelet and Availability
The timepiece is equipped with a three-link stainless steel bracelet, combining brushed outer links and a polished center for a refined appearance. A folding clasp with push-button release ensures a secure and comfortable fit. Limited to 100 pieces per dial variant, the Delma Shell Star Big Date is priced at € 2,500.
