A Closer Look At The Limited Laco x Circula ProLab Duo

German watch brands are not typically known for collaborative projects, which makes the new Laco x Circula ProLab initiative particularly intriguing. Rather than merging design cues into a single model, the two manufacturers decided to approach the idea from opposite directions. Each created a watch that reinterprets the other’s core identity, resulting in a pair composed of the Laco Field and the Circula Pilot, two pieces built on shared mechanical foundations but distinct stylistic intentions.

Laco Field: A Pilot’s DNA Reimagined for the Ground

The Laco Field originates from the structure of the Laco PRO, but its personality is unmistakably inspired by traditional field watches. The sandy dial colour immediately differentiates it from Laco’s usual aviation palette and gives the watch an outdoor-ready character. The luminous ring around the outer portion of the dial emits a gentle green glow in low light, which contrasts with the blue-glowing hands. This dual-tone approach helps separate hands and markers when visibility drops, keeping legibility as straightforward as possible. The dial follows a classic field-watch layout, with large hour numerals running from 1 to 12 on the outer edge and a neatly arranged minute track positioned closer to the centre. Completing the tool-watch aesthetic is a textured sailcloth strap that adds durability and reinforces the utilitarian nature of the watch.

The case of the Laco Field measures 40 millimetres and is made from dark, sandblasted stainless steel, giving it a muted and tactical appearance. It offers a robust 200 metres of water resistance, surpassing the expectations usually set for field watches. Inside the case beats the Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, a proven Swiss calibre with a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Altogether, the Laco Field presents a grounded interpretation of Laco’s aviation heritage, shifting the focus from cockpit precision to on-land functionality.

Circula Pilot: A Field-Born Case Transformed Into a Flieger

The second part of the ProLab duo, the Circula Pilot, takes Circula’s ProTrail case—known for its slightly angular, more contemporary silhouette—and adapts it to the visual rules of a classic pilot’s watch. Circula applies Laco’s Type B flieger dial to the watch, a layout that places the minutes on the outer ring for quick reading and positions the hours towards the centre. The traditional triangular marker at 12 o’clock reinforces the authentic aviation style and helps orient the dial at a glance. The two brand names are both featured, though their positions are reversed compared to the Laco Field, subtly highlighting the duality of the collaboration. Like its counterpart, the watch is fitted with a sailcloth strap, staying consistent with the rugged, practical feel of the duo.

The Circula Pilot also has a 40-millimetre diameter, though the shape of the ProTrail case makes it appear slightly larger on the wrist. Its water resistance is rated to 150 metres, which is more than sufficient for daily wear and adventure use. The movement inside is once again the Sellita SW200-1 automatic with a 41-hour power reserve, ensuring both watches in the ProLab collaboration share the same mechanical reliability. The Circula Pilot successfully brings flieger design elements into Circula’s outdoor-oriented platform, merging aviation clarity with field-ready construction.

A Collaboration Defined by Symmetry

One of the most distinctive aspects of the ProLab project is the balanced exchange between the two brands. Both watches rely on the same movement, share the same case diameter, and use sailcloth straps, which creates a cohesive pairing. At the same time, each model remains firmly rooted in its manufacturer’s history. The Laco Field pushes pilot design into the world of field watches, while the Circula Pilot brings field-watch case architecture into the realm of aviation styling. Together, the two pieces function as complementary explorations of German tool-watch design rather than as independent releases.

Pricing & Availability

The full Laco x Circula ProLab set includes both watches and is priced at € 2,390. The collaboration is limited to 170 sets in total, making it a strictly small-batch release. Each set can be purchased directly through the online stores of either brand, giving collectors two official points of sale. The duo offers two complementary interpretations of German tool-watch design while keeping production intentionally exclusive.
