Byrne Unveils The Star 38MM: A Worldtimer With Gyro Dial And Time Flow

The Byrne watch brand, known for its innovative approach to horology, has introduced the new Byrne Star 38mm. This worldtimer not only features the brand’s signature Gyro Dial complication but also debuts the groundbreaking “Time Flow” complication, a world first in watchmaking.

Designed to provide unparalleled readability across multiple time zones, the Byrne Star Worldtimer showcases a rotating central disc displaying 12 cities while simultaneously indicating the time of day in 16 additional locations. These are inscribed on four rotating cubes positioned at the cardinal points, offering an intuitive way to track time across different geographical regions.

Encased in Grade 5 titanium, the watch measures 38mm in diameter with a thickness of 11.40mm, striking the perfect balance between robustness and elegance. The polished and satin finish enhances its refined aesthetics, while sapphire crystal on both the front and back ensures durability and clarity. A crown at 3 o’clock and a hidden pusher allow for seamless time zone adjustments, complemented by a water resistance of up to 50 meters.

The dial design is as intricate as it is functional, featuring a central blue disc that hosts six cities on the outer ring—London, Athens, Abu Dhabi, Dhaka, Macau, and Brisbane—alongside six more in the inner section, including Midway, Juneau, La Paz, Havana, Brasília, and the Azores. The cities of Brisbane and Midway are highlighted in gold to indicate the reading sequence. The four rotating cubes at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock further enhance the watch’s global capabilities, each displaying four cities, one per face. These include Hanoi, Paris, Rome, and New York at 12 o’clock; Malé, Tokyo, Baku, and Rio at 3 o’clock; Taipei, Hong Kong, Oslo, and Bern at 6 o’clock; and Doha, Sydney, Nouméa, and Dubai at 9 o’clock. Rather than showing local times, these cubes depict the phase of the day through background hues: blue for morning, turquoise for noon, dark blue for evening, and a starry sky for night. Separating the rotating hubs are four brushed-finish anthracite bridges secured with two screws each that also function as indexes, and finaly, two skeletonized gold hands at the center indicate the local time, ensuring both precision and elegance.

At the heart of the Byrne Star 38mm lies the hand-wound Caliber 5558 movement, boasting 274 components, including 38 jewels. Operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, this movement delivers an impressive power reserve of 66 hours, ensuring reliable performance over extended periods.

Completing its sophisticated appeal, the watch is paired with a blue alligator leather strap, available with both a pin buckle and a folding clasp. The Byrne Star 38mm is priced at CHF 32,500 plus tax, making it a distinguished addition to the world of haute horlogerie. Designed for globetrotters and watch connoisseurs alike, this timepiece redefines the concept of world timers with its revolutionary complications and refined aesthetics.
