Compact, Colorful, And Cool: Batavi’s New Marina Chronograaf

Batavi, the Netherlands-based microbrand known for its bold design language and accessible mechanical timepieces, expands its lineup with the release of the Marina Chronograaf. The new model brings vibrant color palettes and a thoughtfully engineered construction to a classically sized chronograph, powered by a hand-wound mechanical movement.

The new chronograph presents a more contemporary and relaxed design, with its playful color palette clearly aligned with the current summer season. Its modest case size, paired with a reliable mechanical movement and practical details like a steel bracelet with toolless micro-adjustments, delivers a refined wearing experience. Combined with a price tag under € 700, the Marina Chronograaf stands out as an excellent value proposition for both seasoned collectors and first-time buyers alike.

A Refined Stainless Steel Case

The Marina Chronograaf features a 38 mm stainless steel case, offering a versatile size suited to a wide range of wrist sizes. The case exhibits a mix of brushed and polished surfaces, enhancing both its visual appeal and dimensionality. Measuring 13.50 mm thick including the domed sapphire crystal and with a lug-to-lug length of 46 mm, the watch delivers a compact and balanced presence on the wrist.

Ergonomic Bracelet and Modern Adjustability

Each timepiece is paired with a three-link stainless steel bracelet that echoes the angular character of the case. Designed for convenience and comfort, the bracelet includes quick-release spring bars that enable easy strap changes without tools. Additionally, it features a clasp with toolless micro-adjustment, allowing wearers to fine-tune the fit quickly and precisely at any time.

Mechanical Movement with Exhibition Caseback

Inside the Marina Chronograaf beats the hand-wound Seagull ST1901 chronograph movement, visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback. This movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz), incorporates 21 jewels, and offers a power reserve of up to 50 hours depending on chronograph usage. The Marina Chronograaf also provides a practical water resistance rating of 50 meters, making it suitable for everyday wear.

Innovative Layer Dial Design

One of the most distinctive features of the Marina Chronograaf is its layer-style dial. Each dial comprises a transparent top layer printed with hour markers, brand text, and the model name, along with a colored lower layer that brings a unique tone and sense of depth to the design. The openings in the top layer also reveal the two concentric-grained sub-dials, enhancing legibility and visual texture.

The collection includes four color variants. The Sunrise model features a striking pink-to-turquoise gradient dial and utilizes Eastern Arabic numerals, creating a bold and culturally rich appearance. The Mist edition offers a snow-white dial accented with light blue lume on the hour and minute hands, along with matching blue highlights on the 30-minute counter. For those preferring a more subdued yet warm palette, the Sand variant combines a beige dial with orange, brown, and blue accents. Lastly, the Night model presents a darker tone, centered around a black dial illuminated by vibrant pink, green, and purple details.
