Retro Charm – Unveiling The Angelus Instrument De Vitesse Monopusher Chronograph

After seeing the arrival of the Angelus Chronographe Médical last year, which served to debut the La Fabrique collection, the Swiss watchmaker surprises us now with the Instrument De Vitesse Monopusher Chronograph, which arrives with a beautiful retro look dial, in a moderate case and manual movement.

These beautiful timepieces arrive in the form of two iterations, one with an ebony-black dial and the other with an ivory-white dial and each of them is limited to 25 units, which come with individual numbering on the case back.

This is not an ordinary chronograph, but rather a chronograph with three centre hands and just one pusher button integrated into the crown which, when activated, operates the central second’s hand that works in partnership with the tachymetric scale and allows average speed readings of up to 60 seconds.

The vintage-inspired chronograph wears a round stainless steel case measuring 39mm in diameter and just 9.27mm thick thanks to housing a manual movement, which alternates between polished and brushed finishes, smooth bezel, glass-box-type sapphire crystal, fluted crown at 3 o’clock with a mono-pusher and screwed open case back that doesn’t do justice to the 30m of water resistance.

Its main showcase is the dial and on it, we can find applied Arabic numerals and syringe hands which, in addition to being filled with Super-LumiNova that glows blue in the dark, are outlined by rhodium-plated (black dial) or black-coated (white dial). Along the edges are two scales, an outer tachymeter and an inner minute scale, which are painted in beige with red details for the black variant, while on the white they are painted in blue with orange details.

At its heart lies the Caliber A5000, just 4.20mm tall, which comes with a column wheel and horizontal clutch, reaching 21,600 Vph and offering up to 42 hours of power reserve, which can be appreciated through its sapphire case back.

Both watches come attached to a calfskin leather strap in camel colour for the black version and dark blue Nubuck for the white one.

Limited to 25 units each, the watches are priced at CHF 17,100.

If you are a fan of vintage pulsometers chronographs we have good news for you, as Angelus in collaboration with Massena LAB, have just presented a limited edition new Chronographe Medical.

Inspired by the Angelus “doctor’s watch” from 1960, the Swiss brand’s latest chronograph features a design very similar to the original with an emphasis on the internal dual scale that measures pulse and respiration.

On the outside, the new watch now features a 39mm stainless steel case (2mm wider than the original) which features a sapphire glass front now without a magnifier, a fluted crown at 3 o’clock, a mono-pusher chronograph at 2 o’clock and a screw sapphire case back which, in addition to revealing the splendour of the manual movement, is also engraved with the individual numbering type “XX / 99” referring to the limited edition.

But it is the silvered opaline dial that is the showcase of this little wonder, featuring applied Arabic hour markers and dauphine faceted hands, a central chronograph seconds hand, a running seconds at 9 o’clock, a black minute track that houses a base 10 pulsations on the outside, with a scale in three tones: green, black and red, and inside a base 5 respirations in red. Finally, the inscriptions of the brand’s logo at 12 o’clock wrapped into the “shield” and the two lines of text at 6 o’clock with the watch name “Chronographe Medical”.

At the heart of the new Angelus runs the Caliber A5000, which operates at 21,600 Vph and offers up to 42 hours of power reserve.

The watch comes attached to a golden brown calfskin strap with a pin buckle.

As already mentioned, this is a limited edition of just 99 units, which can be purchased for the price of CHF 19,900, which is not cheap, in a world where rarities come at a premium price.
