Introducing the Akrivia RRCC II

The Swiss watch brand Akrivia founded in 2012 by Rexhep Rexhepi, completes a decade of existence this year and has just launched the RRCC II, after having launched its first Chronomètre Contemporain in 2018, which won the Men’s Watch Prize Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve.

Despite the materials used and the variations in the dial, the new RRCC II, which at first glance may seem almost entirely similar to its predecessor, comes with significant improvements, not only on the outside but also on the inside.

While the case retains the previous 38mm diameter and the former design, it is completely new and made in-house under the supervision of famed case maker Jean-Pierre Hagmann. Consisting of 15 parts, including individually soldered lugs to the middle case, which are now more arched and a sapphire crystal with a more pronounced dome. Regarding the material used for the case and crown, the new RRCC II comes in two variants, one in platinum and the other in rose gold 5N, both offering up to 30 meters of water resistance.

The Grand feu enamel dial is perhaps the component of the watch that has not changed compared to the first generation five years ago, keeping the same layout with Roman hour markers, small seconds at 6 o’clock and hands matching the case material. As for the variants, the platinum case comes with a black enamel dial with markings in ivory, while the rose gold 5N case comes with an ivory enamel dial with markings in black.

As we have already mentioned, we also find new features on the inside, with the inclusion of the new Caliber RRCC02, which now includes two barrels, with one providing energy to the balance wheel and the other driving the jumping seconds without compromising the movement accuracy. The hacking seconds is now possible, just pulling the crown, which allows an accurate set time. Another technical innovation is the new balance wheel that now comes with adjustment screws instead of circular weights offering more stable timekeeping over longer periods. Like the RRCC I, all this can be observed through the sapphire case back.

Finally, the watches are offered with a fine calfskin strap, in shades of black for the platinum variant and brown for the rose gold variant, hand-stitched, with a pin-buckle matching the case material.

Our Opinion

We haven’t had the opportunity to talk here about Rexhep Rexhepi’s fantastic work and the way he has been developing his Akrivia brand.

The new RRCC II, as we have already mentioned, comes with very interesting novelties that add value to its Cronomètre Contemporain, we were especially pleased with the variant in rose gold 5N that comes with the ivory enamel dial, whose combination seems brilliant to us, evoking the classic essence of the watch with a contemporary twist.
