Cartier has just renewed the Tank Française, a model launched in 1996 that brought the bracelet integrated into the Cartier Tank as a great novelty.
The Tank Française, despite maintaining all its charm and lineage, now appears more contemporary, revealed in seven new models, three in steel and four in yellow gold, and split into three sizes – small, medium and large.
On the outside, the new Française features more rounded brancards, with a more pronounced brushed satin finish on the case, while the bracelets alternate between polished and brushed finish, and retractile crown.
It should also be noted that the gold models are available in small and medium sizes, and each of them can come with plain brancards or two diamond rows on the brancards.
As for the dial, the gold versions now come with a champagne sunray dial, while the steel versions come with a silver dial, which comes in a sunray finish on the small size and satin on the medium and large sizes. Another novelty is the Roman numerals that now appear applied instead of printed.
Inside, there are no major novelties, with the small and medium versions coming with a quartz movement with hour and minute hands in the centre, while the large steel version comes equipped with the automatic movement Caliber 1853 based on Sellita that, in addition to the two hands in the centre, adds a central seconds hand and a tiny date window at 3 o’clock.
The Cartier Française, in addition to preserving all its roots, now seems even more elegant and refined. Without exaggerating and raising tweezers, the brand has managed to subtly modernize the model, which is over 25 years old and maintains its distinctive positioning.
We liked it and although we continue to dream of introducing mechanical movements in more moderate sizes, we also understand that this is not the brand’s position or that of most of its customers, so, we can only applaud and wait for more news.
