Carolina Piteira Presents Her Last Work “Know Your Place”

Carolina Piteira presents the exhibition “Know Your Place” which is the title of her most recent work.

With a smile, the artist says that this exhibition was born out of a critique of one of her works a few years ago when she was still taking her first steps into motherhood.

A criticism was inappropriate and that made her reflect on the burdens and pressures that women suffer when dealing with various responsibilities in their daily lives as professionals, mothers, and wives, among many others.

“There are all these expectations in relation to women. There is always an expectation that we are good professionals and good mothers, that we succeed, but not excessively. Of knowing what our place is. We have to live with the weight of these responsibilities that are imposed on us, and that we impose on ourselves. And I believe that even considering the different realities and cultures, dealing with these weights is something that all women understand and feel” says Carolina Piteira.

The exhibition has a total of 21 pieces that combine painting and collage and that portray the weight of responsibilities, expectations and social pressures of different women.

Open to the public from July 21st to September 10th at Rua Nova do Almada 48, in Chiado, Lisbon.
