Breitling Presents the Chronomat GMT
Reintroduced in 2020 the Breitling Chronomat in three initial sizes of 32, 36 and 42mm in several variants, in 2021 it expands its collection with the presentation of the Super Chronomat which marks the arrival of a new size of 44mm and today two years then it’s time to introduce the new Chronomat GMT variant that marks the debut of the new 40mm diameter in the collection.
The new Chronomat GMT comes in five variants – blue, green, grey, black and white, with the first three featuring a sunburst effect on the dial.
On the dial, the highlight goes to the red independent central GMT hand with an arrow tip that works in partnership with the new 24-hour concave chapter ring that provides a second-time zone.
Everything else remains the same on the dial, namely applied hour indexes and hands all filled with Super-LumiNova, date window at 6 o’clock matching the dial, with the exception of the green variant, which curiously comes in white, applied logo and brand inscriptions at 12 o’clock and the two lines inscriptions of “Chronometer” and “Chronomat” that are now accompanied at the top by an additional line with the red inscription of “GMT”.
On the outside, the stainless steel case is accompanied by the traditional “rouleaux” bracelet, alternating between the polished and brushed finish, steel bezel with the four-rider tabs in the positions 3-6-9-12 hours, bullet crown with crown guards at 3 o’clock, sapphire crystal, solid case back and 200m water resistance.
Powered by the Caliber 32 automatic movement based on the ETA 2893-2 which is COSC certified, it operates at 28,800 Vph and offers up to 42 hours of power reserve.
The new Breitling Chronomats are already on sale in the brand’s official boutiques and authorized retailers for a price of €5,550.
Our Opinion
In a modern world where time is scarce, the GMT complication is an increasingly sought-after function, and in that sense Breitling has just solved one of the main gaps in the Chronomat collection.
The option for a new size also seems to be quite coherent, as the collection had a large gap between the 36 and 42mm of the previous models, a gap that is now reduced by the new 40mm size and the 38mm that we are going to leave for a new article.
Among the variants, we liked the most blue and grey, which in our opinion present a mix of elegance and a contemporary look.
