Few chronographs carry the aviation pedigree of the Navitimer. Introduced in 1952 and adopted by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association in 1954 as its official timepiece, the model quickly became a cockpit essential. Over the decades, it has evolved into one of the most recognizable and technically distinctive chronographs in modern watchmaking.

The latest North American Limited Edition revisits one of the most celebrated dial configurations in horology—the panda layout—while preserving the Navitimer’s unmistakable identity.

A Refined Take on the Panda Dial

This edition features a silver dial that serves as a luminous backdrop for three contrasting black subdials positioned at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock. While often described as a “panda,” the execution here is more nuanced than a stark black-and-white interpretation. The dial surface subtly shifts between creamy white and light gray tones depending on lighting conditions, giving it added depth and character.

Each subdial is finished with a snailed texture and framed by chamfered chapter rings, enhancing legibility while adding a sense of refinement. The applied hour markers, central hands, and the winged logo are presented in rose gold tone, introducing warmth and visual contrast to the otherwise monochromatic palette.

Red accents further animate the dial. The central chronograph seconds hand, along with the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, are highlighted in red. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these touches improve readability by clearly separating the chronograph indications from standard timekeeping functions.

The Iconic Slide Rule Bezel

The circular slide rule bezel remains one of the defining elements of the Navitimer collection. On this model, the rotating outer bezel is executed in black with a white scale, ensuring strong contrast for calculations.

Inspired by the E6B circular flight computer developed in the 1930s, the slide rule enables pilots to perform various in-flight calculations, including fuel consumption, airspeed, and distance conversions. Select reference markings appear in red, echoing the chronograph hands and reinforcing the overall design coherence.

The overhanging coin-edge bezel construction, together with the classic pump pushers and signed crown, preserves the functional, aviation-oriented character that has defined the Navitimer for decades.

Case and Strap

The watch is housed in a 43 mm stainless steel case, consistent with the core Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43 lineup. Its proportions maintain a strong wrist presence while remaining true to the collection’s established dimensions.

This North American edition is paired with a mahogany brown alligator leather strap featuring white contrast stitching and a stainless steel folding clasp. The rich brown tone complements the rose gold dial details, adding a refined and slightly vintage-inspired character to the overall aesthetic.

Manufacture Caliber B01

Powering the watch is Breitling’s in-house Caliber B01 automatic chronograph movement, introduced in 2009 as the brand’s flagship manufacture caliber. The movement is built around a column wheel architecture and uses a vertical clutch system, ensuring precise chronograph engagement and smooth operation of the central seconds hand. It operates at a frequency of 4 Hz, equivalent to 28,800 vibrations per hour, and offers an impressive power reserve of approximately 70 hours.

In addition, the movement is COSC-certified, confirming its chronometer-grade precision and reliability. The combination of technical sophistication and robust construction underscores the Navitimer’s position as both a professional instrument and a luxury chronograph.
