Brad Pitt Was Wimbledon Bench Winner With His Steel Vacheron Constantin 222
On July 16, 2023, the final of Wimbledon, the oldest tennis tournament on the planet, was played, which the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz majestically won against the no less brilliant Novak Djokovic.
As is customary year after year, the action does not take place only on the pitches of the central court, but also in the stands where numerous personalities from different quarters “parade” and compete for the attention of spectators and the media.
This year was no different and there were countless characters that captivated the spotlight, but there was one that shone more than the others, at least for the many fans of watchmaking, we are talking about the actor Brad Pitt and this time not because he is considered the most handsome man on the planet, but now for his good taste, showing on his wrist a vintage Vacheron Constantin 222 in stainless steel spotted by Nick Gould (niccoloy on instagram), today estimated at around CHF 82k and 189k.
Earlier this year, Brad Pitt surprised the world when he appeared alongside Lorel Monroy (watch_momma_ on instagram) from the Feldmar Watch Company, showing on his wrist a Vacheron Costantin Historiques 222 in yellow gold, a recreation of the watch created in 1977 for the 222nd anniversary of the oldest watchmaking manufacture in the world and which was the main star of Watches And Wonders in 2022.
And almost six months later Brad Pitt reappears with the same model but this time with the original in steel, a very exclusive timepiece that was in production for just eight years.
Launched in the 1970s, it entered the disputed race of chic sports watches, joining the other two “musketeers” of haute horlogerie, the Patek Philippe (PP) with its Nautilus model and the Audemars Piguet (AP) with its Royal Oak.
But the Vacheron Constantin 222, despite its identical characteristics, namely the integrated bracelet that is very much in vogue today, has always been different from the other two, starting with the fact that it was created by Jörg Hysex and not by Gérald Genta, the father of the other two (PP Nautilus and the AP Royal Oak), and because it was discontinued in 1985 while the other two remain active today.
Brad Pitt, who has no affiliation with the Maltese Cross brand and is often seen wearing pieces from other watch brands, shows exquisite taste when it comes to vintage watches, with his two Vacheron Constantin 222s working here as a perfect epilogue.
