Black And Gold: The New Schwarz Etienne 1902 Petite Seconde
The Schwarz Etienne 1902 collection brings together a range of watches built around the Manufacture’s own mechanical expertise, from simple time-only models to versions incorporating power reserve and GMT indications. The latest addition, the 1902 Petite Seconde Heure Dorée, takes the collection’s familiar small-seconds layout and gives it a more contemporary, monochromatic character.
Its combination of black DLC-coated titanium, a deep-black dial and contrasting gold-toned details creates a watch defined by the relationship between darkness and light. Beneath that restrained exterior, however, is the Manufacture’s ASE 300.00 automatic movement, equipped with a micro-rotor and an 86-hour power reserve.
A Lightweight Case with a Dark Finish
The 1902 Petite Seconde Heure Dorée is housed in a 39 mm Grade 5 titanium case, measuring 10.90 mm in thickness and 45.80 mm from lug to lug. The choice of titanium keeps the watch relatively light on the wrist, while its multi-layer black DLC coating gives the case a distinctly darker appearance.

The finishing is not limited to the black treatment. The bezel features a circular satin finish, while the lugs combine satin-brushed and polished surfaces. Their curved profile helps the case follow the wrist, adding a more refined dimension to the otherwise technical material.
The titanium crown is also DLC-coated and carries an engraved Schwarz Etienne logo. Water resistance is rated at 50 metres.
A Dial Built Around Contrast
The black dial is composed of several layers and textures rather than relying on a single flat surface. Its centre features a silky grained finish, while the upper plate is rendered in black opaline. The contrast between the two becomes more apparent as light moves across the dial.

Small seconds remain positioned at 6 o’clock, preserving the traditional layout of the 1902 Petite Seconde. Against the dark background, the applied hour markers and lancine-style hour and minute hands are finished in 4N PVD. The hands combine sandblasted and polished surfaces, adding subtle variation to the gold-toned details.
The Schwarz Etienne logo is applied in polished 4N gold-toned PVD, while the minute and small-seconds tracks use the same colour. The result is a restrained colour palette in which the gold accents provide the main visual contrast without overwhelming the dial.
The ASE 300.00 Micro-Rotor Movement
Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the ASE 300.00 is an automatic movement developed, produced and assembled in-house by Schwarz Etienne in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
The calibre uses a micro-rotor winding system and comprises 191 components and 29 jewels. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers an 86-hour power reserve, giving the watch more than three days of autonomy when fully wound.

For this limited edition, the movement has been decorated in anthracite and ruthenium tones to complement the darker exterior. The bridges feature circular and concentric Côtes de Genève, while the sandblasted mainplate is finished with polished bevels and tone-on-tone engraving.
The micro-rotor combines polished and satin-finished surfaces with a hand-polished bevel. Its 4N PVD treatment echoes the gold-toned elements of the dial, creating a visual connection between the movement and the watch’s exterior.
Further attention is given to the ratchet wheel, which receives hand-finished decoration and is engraved with the limited-edition designation before being filled with anthracite lacquer.
A Limited Edition of Eight Pieces
The 1902 Petite Seconde Heure Dorée is paired with a black Cordura strap featuring a black rubber lining. It is secured by a Grade 5 titanium pin buckle, also finished with multi-layer black DLC coating.

With its 39mm case, small-seconds display and micro-rotor movement, the watch remains faithful to the 1902 collection’s essential character. The combination of lightweight titanium, layered black finishes and gold-toned details, however, gives this edition a more distinctive identity.
Limited to just eight pieces, the Schwarz Etienne 1902 Petite Seconde Heure Dorée is priced at € 21,890.
