Back to Basics: Oris Sixty-Five 12H Calibre 400
When class meets classic it can rarely fail, and it is this combination that Oris has just offered with its latest creation the new Sixty-Five 12H.
It almost seems inexplicable but the truth is that from his Sixty-Five collection until today Oris didn’t have any diver watch with a black dial, white indexes and a totally silver case, a true classic, of the 28 existing models.
Well, the new release now fills this gap and is the first Sixty-Five in regular production to incorporate the “new” Caliber 400. But the news doesn’t stop there, as the name implies, this new diver comes with a 12 hours bezel instead of the traditional diver bezel with a minute scale.
Turning now to the features of the watch, on the outside, it comes with a 40mm diameter stainless steel case with alternating polished and brushed finishes, bidirectional aluminium fluted bezel with 120 clicks, a crown with the brand’s signature at 3 o’clock, sapphire glass on the front and on the case-back and 100m water resistance.
On the matte black dial, applied hour markers in varied geometric shapes and central hands all filled with Super-LumiNova in white, lollipop seconds hand, date window at 6 o’clock, minute scale outer ring and the brand’s inscriptions at 12 o’clock and as an opposing side, the indication of 100m of water resistance preceded by the indication of “5 Days” referring to the power reserve.
As already mentioned, inside it comes with the powerful Caliber 400 with automatic movement, which operates at 28,800 Vph, offers high resistance to magnetic fields and a 10-year service-free warranty.
The watch can be purchased with a three-link steel bracelet or a black leather strap, with recommended prices between €3,300 and €3,100 respectively.
Our Opinion
A vintage diver watch taken from textbooks, in which almost all its elements combine in a perfect symbiosis, it is and will always be a classic that easily draws a smile and arouses the interest of any connoisseur or layman in the world of horology.
The new monochrome Oris Sixty-Five 12H is simple but elegant, it is discreet but ingenious, and it is without a doubt the cherry that was missing from the cake.
The only point of discussion will perhaps be its bezel, and here there will be those who will like it and those who will turn up their noses, but there is nothing to be done about that, as for us the Sixty-Five, given its short 100m water resistance, it’s not a true diver watch, and for that, we would never use it for diving, and that’s why the 12-hour bezel doesn’t bother us at all, on the contrary, it seems much more utilitarian and functional to provide a second-time zone.
In short, we liked it!
