GMT watches seem to be one of the complications that is increasingly appreciated by watch lovers, and this trend has also grown among the Seiko public. A few days ago we wrote an article reporting this trend and the Japanese brand seems to have understood this, It is no coincidence that this has been evident in his latest releases. If we add a Seiko diving watch to the GMT complication then we would say it is almost the perfect marriage.
It is in this sense that the eastern watchmaking brand now brings us the new Seiko Prospex Diver ‘Artic Ocean’ SPB439, part of the ‘Save The Ocean’ Series.
The new reference joins the three models launched in March last year, which were a debut for the brand as the first GMT Diver mechanics. Among them were the SPB381 and SPB383 that became part of the regular collection and the limited edition SPB385 included in the same ‘Save The Ocean’ Series as this recent addition.
Like the 2023 models, the new dive watch wears a stainless steel case inspired by the 6159-7001 model from 1968, which measures 42mm in diameter, 12.90mm in thickness and 48.60mm lug-to-lug distance, finish brushed on the surfaces and polished on the wide bevels, unidirectional bezel with glossy black ceramic insert and 60-minute scale, domed sapphire crystal, screw-down crown at 4 o’clock, drilled lugs, screwed case back and 200m waterproof.
Like the SPB385, the new SPB439 comes with a textured dial with vertical striations inspired by glaciers, which here appears in silvery white, featuring applied hour markers and faceted pencil hands all filled with LumiBrite, a lollipop center seconds hand, a date window at 4 :30 and an extra central blue GMT hand matching the 24-hour scale on the inner flange and the inscription ‘GMT’ at 6 o’clock.
Inside, there is nothing new operating the Caliber 6R54 automatic movement that reaches 28,800 Vph and offers 3 days of power reserve.
The watch is attached to a 3-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp and diving extension.
This limited edition of 1,500 units can be purchased at the brand’s official boutiques and at some selected authorized retailers for a price of €1,800.
