Audemars Piguet Presents a New Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT

In the year that Audemars Piguet celebrates 20 years of its Royal Oak Concept line, a line with clearly sporty and futuristic features and that tries to escape from its more classic foundations, announces the arrival of a new Flying tourbillion GMT.

The Royal Oak Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT which has roots in the 2013 Concept GMT Tourbillon in white tones, appears “renovated” later on under the new “Flying Tourbillon GMT” insignia in different tones, and which now reappears in the form of a new variant in green tones.

Except for the new tones, there is not much more news to announce with the arrival of the new RO Concept Flying Tourbillon GMT, so let’s get to the news, the octagonal bezel, crown and pushpiece all in ceramic now come in tones of green instead of the previous grey, the bridges on the skeletonized dial are now black PVD-treated instead of the past different colour shades and finally, the Royal Oak hands are now in pink gold as is the crown insert and also on a set of appliqués on the dial replacing the previous white gold accents.

Everything else remains, namely on the outside, 44mm diameter titanium case and crown guards with a sandblasted finish, screw-locked crown, sapphire crystal on the front and case back, 100m water resistance and textured green rubber strap with sandblasted titanium AP folding clasp.

On the darkened skeletonized dial, black inner bezel, central hour and minute hands, a second time-zone indicator at 3 o’clock provided by a sapphire plate, a flying tourbillon at 9 o’clock and the crown indicator function at 6 o’clock, where the “H” position is for the time setting, the “R” for winding the movement and the “N” for neutral.

Inside, there is also no room for novelty, continuing (and very well) to operate the Caliber AP2954 manual movement that operates at 21,600 Vph and offers an impressive 237 hours (10 days) of power reserve.

And if almost everything is admirable about this watch, its price of CHF 198,900 does not lag behind it, living up to its name.
