Albishorn Marinagraph Classic: A Refined Take On The Regatta Chronograph

Swiss independent watchmaker Albishorn expands its nautically inspired collection with the Marinagraph Classic, a more restrained interpretation of its distinctive regatta chronograph. Staying true to the brand’s fascination with imagined vintage designs, the new model combines a mechanical chronograph with a retrograde ten-minute countdown, while introducing a simpler bezel treatment and two contrasting dial options.

The Marinagraph Classic is available with either a sunray-brushed black dial or a new white fumé dial. The latter gradually darkens towards the perimeter, creating additional depth while maintaining the clean character of the design. Both versions feature prominent applied markers and contrasting hands, with the black dial using silver details and the white version opting for black.

A key functional element is the ten-minute regatta countdown scale positioned at 7 o’clock. Its blue and red markings provide an immediate visual reference for the countdown, while the central chronograph and regatta hands are color-matched to each dial: red on the black version and blue on the white model.

At 3 o’clock, an aperture serves as a running indicator, providing a visual indication of the movement’s operating status.

A Sapphire Bezel for Greater Versatility

One of the most significant changes comes from the bezel. Instead of the colorful aluminium tide bezel found on previous Marinagraph versions, the Classic features a large bidirectional sapphire bezel with traditional markings and luminous elements.

The new configuration gives the watch a cleaner appearance while retaining a distinctly nautical character. The sapphire construction also allows the dial and its graphical details to remain the visual focus, while the luminous markings provide practical legibility in low-light conditions.

The case measures 39 mm in diameter, with a compact 47.70 mm lug-to-lug measurement and a thickness of 13 mm. Crafted from stainless steel, it offers 100 metres of water resistance, making the Marinagraph Classic suitable for both everyday use and its intended maritime environment.

The unconventional positioning of the controls remains part of the Albishorn design. The crown is located at 10 o’clock, while the red-anodized aluminium monopusher sits at 9 o’clock.

A Dedicated Regatta Chronograph

At the heart of the Marinagraph Classic is Albishorn’s proprietary ALB01 automatic chronograph calibre. The movement combines several functions in a relatively unusual configuration: a monopusher chronograph, a retrograde ten-minute regatta countdown and a running indicator.

Operating the red monopusher initiates both the chronograph and the countdown. The countdown hand travels through its ten-minute scale before returning to its starting position and stopping, while the central chronograph seconds hand continues running. Pressing the pusher again stops the timing operation, with a subsequent activation resetting the chronograph.

The ALB01 is based in part on the architecture of the Valjoux 7750, but Albishorn has substantially modified the design. Among the changes are the conversion to monopusher operation, the proprietary retrograde countdown mechanism and an increased power reserve.

The movement measures just 6.60 mm thick, providing a power reserve of 64 hours.

This combination of functions gives the Marinagraph Classic a mechanical identity that goes well beyond a conventional chronograph. Rather than simply measuring elapsed time, the ALB01 is designed around the specific timing requirements associated with yacht racing and regattas.

Two Limited Editions

Albishorn will produce the Marinagraph Classic in two dial configurations, with each version limited to 99 pieces. The watches will be produced over a three-year period, although the individual examples will not be numbered.

Each watch is supplied with two rubber straps. The Marinagraph Classic is priced at CHF 3,950 in this configuration, while an option including a stainless-steel bracelet and the two rubber straps is priced at CHF 4,400.

Sales begin on today – August 14 at 9:00 a.m. EDT, corresponding to 3:00 p.m. CEST, directly through Albishorn.
